Be prepared: Wall Street advisor recommends guns, ammo for protection in collapse

A top financial advisor, worried that Obamacare, the NSA spying scandal and spiraling national debt is increasing the chances for a fiscal and social disaster, is recommending that Americans prepare a “bug-out bag” that includes food, a gun and ammo to help them stay alive.

David John Marotta, a Wall Street expert and financial advisor and Forbes contributor, said in a note to investors, “Firearms are the last item on the list, but they are on the list. There are some terrible people in this world. And you are safer when your trusted neighbors have firearms.”

Hard to find? Expensive? The market is flush with the mainstream stuff like AK, 223, and 22LR, and at good prices. 380 remains at about 50 cents a round.

Yep, I’ve looked at a number of them. What isn’t out of stock is base grade at premium price.

Just got the "Cheaper Than Dirt" catalog.

:-o

Agreed. Who would. But you would deal with an entirely different hungry and rowdy bunch, to some extent. Perhaps a good number of those peeps up there would already be pretty well armed, have some food, more resilient to the climate, etc. Makes for more interesting problems, for sure.

Vehicles can be shut down. Better insurance if you have to bug out, is to have a pre 1965 vehicle, no computers and can be held together with baling wire if need be...

There’s a great section in my Preparedness Manual on Bug Out Bags.

“My car was followed by these people and they knew where I was every day.”
“Oh, the fun that little sentence suggests.....”

I just wrote more about that in this post, then deleted it. I wouldn't feel safe if I wrote more. A man who has been convicted of a federal crime and charged in two counties of other crimes, would tend not to care about my health.

“We should be hunting down those responsible for getting us in this mess.”

A large portion of those responsible are in DC and surrounding areas - and we know where they work - makes it easy to find them.

thats cute..."white sprinkles".....I'm afraid you're fears are right though...you're not safe where you're at....all whites don't get along with each other and all blacks don't get along with each other, but everyone gets along better with their own "kind" then other kinds....

we already live in a pretty caucasian area, in the country, but with lost of 5 acre plots and houses....

I worry about my adult children however...in big cities...I hope they wise up...you can't really tell them anything....

2nd and 3rd world produced .308 is running $600-800 per thousand. Maybe OK or total crap priced like premium ammo. Season before last I was paying less per round for premium brand hunting ammo in a 20 round box.

If you look around, most of the ammo is marked not in stock, I guess expensive is relative but to me it is expensive. Before Zero put a panic in the market, I could find brass cased 9mm for about $12 per box of 50 in truck sized stacks at the local stores. Same ammo in meager stacks priced at $25 last time I checked which is an improvement over a few months before that when the only ammo on the shelves was priced at more than a buck a round.

Primers have shown up, my dealer manages supply by charging $48/thousand, I could get them for less than $30 before the big scare. Pistol powder, prices marked on the shelf haven’t changed, there is just nothing on the shelf. My bulk bullet provider also hasn’t changed prices but now there is a 4-6 month wait for delivery.

If you want to occasionally go out and bust a couple of caps, sure you can get some ammo that won’t make you go broke. But if you shoot competitively (think about a thousand rounds a week) or stock up for end of the world (not my personal goal but should be considered) then yes, hard to find and expensive.

I still haven’t seen a 500 round box of .22lr for less than $80 since last year and the place that was selling for that price sold out.

Unless you shoot competitively just how much will a person really need if TSHTF. Seriously how many firefights is the average person going to survive.

I hope to stay in place.
But...Bug Out!

First I had a set of clothing and vest ready for a short term 1-2 day time frame.

Soon I added a backpack to extend the time to 4-6 days.

Later I did another pack with wheels to extend the coverage to 2 weeks or more and included durable shelter. It can be carried (rolled) but also taken in a car.

A couple of weeks ago I found your thread and did a review! I have now covered the safe drinking water (water straws) and personal protection. Additionally, I realized I need a Bug Back Bag in case I am away from home when TSHTF. This required an inflatable boat for a water crossing and launching and landing sites, as well as a dog life jacket to be added to the car gear .

Now that is solved is there another shoe ready to drop? LOL

That reminds me of a joke...

Three white men were captured by a bunch of Indians. They were taken to the Indian’s tribe and forced to wait for the chief. A day later the chief came in the tee-pee and said, “We are going to kill you, but I’ll give you a choice. You can either kill yourself, make it short and quick, or we can kill you but it’s a long process and very painful. No matter what you do, we’re going to use your skins to make canoes. What is your decision?”

The first man said, “I’ll kill myself, give me a gun.” So the Indians gave him a gun and the first whiteman shot himself in the head and died.

The second man said, “I’ll kill myself, give me a knife.” So the Indians gave him a knife and the second whiteman stabbed himself in the heart and died.

The third man said, “I’ll kill myself, give me a fork.” The chief looked confused and asked, “Are you sure? A knife or gun would be quicker.” The man said no and told the chief to just give him the fork. Once the fork was in his hands he started stabbing himself repeatedly, saying over and over again, “You ain’t making no canoe out’a me!!!”
