Tens of thousands in the Northeast and Midwest who spent Christmas in the dark and cold after a vicious ice storm are likely to be waiting until the weekend for their power to be restored, utility firms said early Thursday.
For many people in Maine -- proportionally the hardest-hit state there looked to be more misery on the way, with a second bout of snow and cold temperatures threatening to put even more people in the dark.

Oh, that’s a good one...
Would that be L-BGAD?
He set up a a feed bin in the valley below his house and the other day when he went out to fill it, 6 deer had come out of the woods to feed off it before he even got back to the gate in his yard......foraging has been tough for them.
Excellent point that I had not considered. Thanks for the words of wisdom.
Yes indeed. While the probability of an accident there is low, it’s still something to consider.
Every year there’s a propaganda campaign about “Know Your Zone”, and all the instructions and rules that come along with it.
Our plan is to bug-in. I-75 would be a parking lot inside of 10 minutes with thousands of people all trying to get to the safe zones in neighboring counties.
The only place I plan on going is to high ground to get a bead on the attacking Zombie Hoards.
“Not a creature was stirring as the lights were all out!”
If I lived in the north, knowing ice brings down power lines, I would have ways to stay warm, have stored food and ways to cook and have light. Anyone living there and not being prepared for power going out, isn’t thinking.
What a pity families have gone to shelters where they have to depend on someone else to keep them alive. I think this illustrates what will happen in a large scale outage of power across the country. Shelters can’t hold millions upon millions of people, and if power is out everywhere, shelters will be just like every other building like you said, “...as the lights were all out!”
Merry Christmas!
Lansing remains a big mess. There were additional outages today, something likely to continue for the next several days.
Looks like you’re in luck. Its supposed to get up near freezing tomorrow and near 40 on Saturday before plummeting back into the single digits on Sunday night.
Ice storms suck. Thoughts and prayers for anyone having to deal with this kind of storm. I hate ‘em. Give me a snowstorm any day of the week.
We are always prepared for electrical outages such as these. We just go about our daily business with minor changes. It’s no big deal.
You would think that anyone living in an area prone to such outages, or some other situation such as hurricanes would learn to be prepared for them, but some don’t.
Our weather wasn’t too bad, the snow was all gone before Christmas day. Today was pretty nice - temperature was unusually warm for this time of year. Oldest daughter got all packed to move today. She will head out of state tomorrow for a new job.
I am so glad that the weather was better this week.
Just Stupid that anyone would stay up in the Frozen North...We are enjoying 70 degree weather today, Grand Son played 18 holes of golf.I got tired of frozen slick roads,8 months of cold gloomy Montana Weather and left and have never looked back.
LOL. Well it would get a bit crowded if all the northeners moved south, but I can identify with the sentiment. The older I get, the more the cold bothers me.
However, Missouri weather is nothing compared to our Northern States, and I sure wouldn’t want to move any further North.
