Democrats have lost their advantage and Republicans now have a slight edge in the battle for control of Congress, according to a new national poll.
A CNN/ORC International survey released Thursday also indicates that President Barack Obama may be dragging down Democratic congressional candidates, and that the 2014 midterm elections are shaping up to be a low-turnout event, with only three in 10 registered voters extremely or very enthusiastic about voting next year.
Two months ago, Democrats held a 50%-42% advantage among registered voters in a generic ballot, which asked respondents to choose between a Democrat or Republican in their congressional district without identifying the candidates. That result came after congressional Republicans appeared to overplay their hand in the bitter fight over the federal government shutdown and the debt ceiling.
But the Democratic lead evaporated, and a CNN poll a month ago indicated the GOP holding a 49%-47% lead. The new survey, conducted in mid-December, indicates Republicans with a 49%-44% edge over the Democrats.

"Virtually all the movement toward the GOP has come among men," CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said. "Fifty-four percent of female voters chose the Democratic candidate in October; 53% pick the Dem now. But among male voters, support for Democratic candidates has gone from 46% in October to just 35% now."
Republicans have a 17-seat advantage in the House and Democrats hold a 55-45 majority in the Senate.

Another GOP advantage is the President's standing with the public: 55% of registered voters say that they are more likely to vote for a congressional candidate who opposes the President than one who supports him and four in 10 say they are likely to vote for a candidate who supports Obama.

If the GOP wins and has any power we still get modified Obamacare (Romneycare) with mandates to buy health insurance and the inevitable formal bailout of the health insurance industry which is Romnneycare first and now Obamacare were designed to be anyway.
There’s a lot of emotions being raised to promote the victory of a party (Republicans) who will do zilch to change anything from the increasing national debt to Obamacare to gay marriage.
I will vote for real conservatives in primaries and third party real conservatives in the general election if the real conservatives lose the GOP primaries.
95 percent of current elected Republican officials are faking conservatism at best, repudiating it at worst.
Even CNN is saying this? I thought they harped for Obama and not the truth.
Talk show hosts will read these polling numbers with glee and I will turn my radio OFF.
Boehner, Ryan, Cantor, Cornyn, McConnell etc. etc. aren’t taking us in a better direction. They go the way of Obama except at their own rate of speed (debt, spending, entitlements continue).
Much ado about nothing, no change, no move in a conservative direction. 17 TRILLION PLUS AND COUNTING......
It’s not just that. Many small business owners have years with low enough profit that they don’t pay federal income taxes.Homeschooling families typically have large families and one income. Again little to no federal income tax. These two groups form the core of what builds a strong nation. Conservatives shouldn’t run around parroting crony capitalist RINOs.
too close to the margin of fraud.
Couldn’t agree more. The Dems and Reps are just two wings of the same party—the Big Government party.
Primordial instinct. By 60-40%, most men are still self-reliant hunters and warriors and most women still want someone to take care of them. Hence the male-female split in republican-democrat voters.
Yeah, but the problem is that now, 10-15% of “men” are Pajama Boy, and they are not even remotely conservative (not are they remotely men).
Not = nor #hatingspellcheck
I'm sure there have been many times when CNN has shown the rats with a 5 pt lead in this poll. It would be interesting to comb through the archives and see how many times they used the word "slight" to describe this 5 pt rat lead.
Are you listening Brent Bozell?
For young people, student loan forgiveness tied to Obamacare sign-up.
For hispanics, amnesty with new citizen tax credits.
For black people...absolutely nothing because he owns them.
Having said all that, I don’t think the democrat constituency will turn out because obama is not on the ballot and they are too busy doing drugs to go to the polls.
Wait til those “If you like your senator, you can keep your senator” ads start getting major airplay.
Nobody get overconfident. The midterm elections are over 10 months away. Plenty of time for the Democrats and the RINOs to get their acts together.
I agree; no more Cornball for me.
