"Five Things A&E Did Wrong has become the hot parlor game among TV industry execs at holiday get-togethers."

"A rookie mistake. Thats how one TV industry veteran whos put in time dealing with rogue reality stars described A&Es handling of its Duck Dynasty nightmare."
-snip-
"Someones going to have to back down, said one industry vet, predicting its not going to be the Robertsons. Either [A+E Networks CEO] Nancy [Dubuc] says, This is not the position of the network and we respect Phils religious beliefs, and we all move on from there, or I dont think the show survives on A&E, the source continued.
Theyre going to have to apologize, agreed another. If they want them back, theyre going to have to eat crow. Theyll probably do it right after Christmas. Look for a note sometime over the next week and a half."

A cable channel that’s been in business for thirty years and is and always has been owned by major media companies doesn’t really have the luxury of going “oops, rookie mistake”.
they do if they have a new dipshit loony tune for a CEO

I agree. Why should the Robertsons back down? They have the show, the money, the business, the glasses/shirts (cool ones), the publicity, their guns, their Bibles, and all the marbles (including those lost by A&E bigwigs).
What does A&E have besides millions of dollars of lost revenue, a bad reputation, losing the top reality show in America (and losing their sponsors), sounding like anti-Christian bigots, and generally pissing off literally every conservative American and future legal immigrant Americans?
Way to go A&E. I couldn’t have planned your emasculation better than you did.
How do you write “television eunuchs”?
Your leaders are such a bunch of Quacks.
I’d wager a solid third on free republic don’t understand southerners either and a few dozen detest us and our legacy
It used to be that offending gays, blacks, or feminists had serious consequences, while straight, white, Christians could be offended with impunity. That seems to be changing.
I think I,understand Southerners just fine. Rule #1: Stay out of my life. Rule #2: See rule #1.
And now A&E has to deal with Jesse “Jackass” Jackson, who has stuck his SINNING and ADULTERY nose into it.
A little race baiting to liven things up.
I think you're right about this, as that used to describe me.
I used to be proud of what my ancestors who fought in the union army did.
Not any more.
Many posts over the years on FR have brought me to the conclusion that the South was right.
And this has little to do with race.
Thanks. Mission accomplished!
A&E thought they could make a show that poked more fun at middle America...only now they had rich rednecks saying and doing “stupid” stuff instead of white trailer trash...
Well, their plan backfired...instead of folks laughing AT the Robertsons, we’re laughing WITH them...they are us. Their values resonate with us and I gladly welcome them into my home...listening to their Christmas music CD as I type this...a lovely and very talented family.
What’s that saying about a thirsty man...I think the DD show is “water” to many people in this day and age...
God Bless and a very Merry Christmas to you all...
I agree with your take on it. Very, very often God uses what people intended to produce an outcome they never expected, and it now looks to me as if He has done that here.
Wow, way to make up your own version of the article entirely.
I don’t think the show ever was intended to laugh at the guys. It’s not the first show the Robertsons have had, they were doing basically the same thing on a much smaller network before. Everybody knew the audience the old show had and what the audience would be on a bigger network.
There was nothing wrong with being interviewed by GQ, the big mistake was the handler not preparing a proper “no” list (topics that shall not be broached, every interview has them). There’s an anonymous guy out there who makes very little money (and probably has been fired) who just plain didn’t do his job.
Hello again--we had an extended civil discussion on a different thread a couple of days ago.
You alluded to this then and have raised it again here, and I'm still curious how exactly this works. Apparently, there is standard contract language giving A&E the right to "censor" Phil in this way in order to protect A&E's investment--is that right? If so, how is it at all enforceable? It's so subjective: these topics are off limits. Are you saying that Phil agreed in advance to such complete censorship?
These are interesting things to debate, and for a lot of them we will need to answer “we don’t know, and we agree to disagree on our tentative opinions.”
Here’s MY pet theory. God has raised up Phil for (at least) the purpose of giving America a true conundrum to puzzle over. Both liberal America and conservative America. He’s the cash cow of a screaming liberal set. He’s said the “unthinkable” before a huge audience and is standing firm. Whaddya do? Whaddya do?
I think here is an opportunity where Christian ministry can start to break another impasse: the impasse over actually HELPING homosexuals. Maybe the Robertsons may even play a role in this; and/or God may have others lined up. I’ve been telling folks till I am blue in the face (and maybe I should add it as a section to my Freep page): homosexuality should not be that difficult a challenge for Christendom. It’s a misdirection of inbuilt love capacity. If the sin is forgiven and the faculties that were involved are presented to God for sanctification, the problem WILL be worked out. By God. And we will get a new group of manly Christians. And they will make heterosexuals jealous to see this aspect of the Lord worked out in their own life. It will be all good, if we let God have His way again. And perhaps after getting thoroughly frustrated with the dead ends of evil, we will yield to God. I pray we will.
I certainly would ask the ex-gay set, and yes it exists today: beef up your faiths, and get out there and start making yourself visible and tell what God did for you. Because God will have your backs if you do. You might suffer, but even the sufferings will be blessings in disguise.
