SEATTLE (AP) -- A Washington state lawmaker said Sunday he was just engaging in some sports trash talk when he called the state of Arizona a ''racist wasteland.''

''If folks are going to take that too seriously, then I'm sorry about that,'' Fitzgibbon said.
Still, Fitzgibbon said people in Washington state ''have not appreciated'' how Arizona has treated immigrants, particularly citing a 2010 immigration law that was subject to a legal challenge from the federal government. He said Arizona leaders need to look at changing laws that he believes amount to racial profiling.

“Racist” is one of those terms slung around loosely, without regard to the actual facts of the situation.
To claim that a person is being “persecuted” when caught in the act of committing some crime, be it mischief, misdemeanor, or felony, and to further claim that the reason for the detainment was because of one factor and one factor only, that the ethnic origin of the detaining officer somehow differed from that of the alleged perpetrator, is a blatant attempt to avoid just and deserved punishment. Justice is blind and all that, but should not be subject to politics or whim, at which time it ceases to be justice.
Arizona is part of the Mojave Wasteland!

I suspect that WAS already has more illegals than Arizona, given the high levels of agriculture there. Originally, many of them were migrant harvesters. Then they decided to stay.
