Obamacare has delivered another sucker punch to the middle class. This time its sticker shock.
Now that a few people can get past the tech problems of HealthCare.gov and actually see the real cost of insurance plans available, they are finding that Affordable Care is big hit to the family budget. And when the family budget gets hit in the solar plexus, guess what happens to consumer spending and the economy.
In California, policies for about 900,000 Californians are being canceled because of Obamacares mandates and about 2/3rd of these do not qualify for subsidies, according to The Chicago Tribune. The resultthese folks will be paying higher premiums.
In Alabama, premiums have doubled for some middle class families like Courtney Long, a stay-at-home mother of four. She told WHNT News. Its devastating. I started crying, said Long. I mean, we have worked so hard to get out of credit card debt, get ahead on the car loan, transfer our mortgage to a 15 from a 30 year mortgage
and for what?

When 65% of precinct residents poll that they intend to replace their RAT rep over Zerocare, they wont be able to rig the 51% win they normally do.
There’s nothing hidden about it.
I will be self-insuring.
Good point! I forgot about the EITC. Yes, equally insulting.
I have to laugh at the morons form high income, high cost of living states such as California, New York, Massachuttest ect and the Union members with Golden health care packages who were the major supporters of ObamaCare.
All of the even lower l middle class liberals in these states have incomes above the subsidy levels due to the inflated cost of living in in those states.
They are already hard pressed supporting their existing entitlement burdens and they are just going to get wiped out by ObamaCare a fact that that just won't sink in due to their extreme focus on Leftist ideology.
In California, they have had the highest number of sign ups, which is being viewed as a huge victory, but most of the sign ups are people in the gay community who want coverage for treatment for their very expensive treatment for their pre existing HIV infections or they are illegals or entitlement riders looking for a free ride.
The number of actual people who will be paying into the system instead of such off it are minimal.
ObamaCare is going to be a disaster that is really, really going to impact the economy as a whole as well.
Thanks for the info. I was getting all kind of crap and just wanted to know how it worked. I've been with Kaiser for many years and don't think or care about deductibles. I feel that they should not be allowed. As Americans we should feel the same hurt this rotten Obamacare has done to us and maybe something will really be done to kill it.
Doug and Ginger Chapman, ages 55 and 54, a middle class couple sitting on the health care cliff. Their annual income of around $100,000 a year makes them ineligible for a subsidy in New Hampshire (if they earned under $94,000, it would cut their costs by half). They have to replace their family insurance which includes the two of them and their two sons. The premium cost alone, not including any deductible is $1,000 a month, or 12 percent of their income.
Since that is 12% of their income legally they don’t have to buy Obamacare. They should just pay for their doc visits, bank the money and get a catastrophic plan (some are still available). People should start being smarter with their money.
I make a pretty humble income, below the national average. The subsidy for me drops the monthly premium to a sum that’s about 25% of my pre-tax income. The pharmacy and medical deductibles are so high that there would leave me nothing for food or shelter. Like most middle-aged people, I do have some health problems, but nothing that can’t be managed with some basic, inexpensive medication. I haven’t been in a hospital in many years and am not a cancer patient or someone who has costly problems that demand monitoring. So on an actuarial basis there is no need for these outrageous rates; it’s just a scam.
I’ll just go on without it until something awful happens. It would be nice to see a physician for some tests and basic female stuff, though.
Since that is 12% of their income legally they dont have to buy Obamacare.
I have a phrase when it comes to automobile safety: My goal is not accident survival. My goal is accident avoidance. Same with health care. My goal is not to be insured against health catastrophies. My goal is to avoid them. It’s why we got a masticating juicer and get most of our food either organic or off our own land - and get plenty of exercise.
And a lot of people don’t know this, but things like broken arms are cheap. As are Chiropractors.
I believe you misspelled that. It should be 'murican.
Im an Amarican

Your words sadden me. For all that these miserable monsters in DC take from us in taxes, inflation, regulations limiting our behavior, we should not have to take this.

One of the exemptions is if insurance is more than 8.1% (or 8.2 something like that) of your income then you are exempt. I figure that is gross but not really sure.
It is amazing how even so called conservative media sources have ignored how Christmas sales this year have been lower and could be much lower than last year. These total 2013 decreases in Christmas sales, if they happen will be due to Obamacare's increased costs. This bad news will get buried in the New Year's Eve annual dumping of bad news by the DC criminals in power.
Many national retailers are staying open for a 100 hours straight with big sales, hoping to stay alive now and in 2014. Will JCP, KMart, and _______________ (fill in the blank) disappear next year, if their desperate 100 hours of staying open fails to bring in the bucks.
If the marginal corporations survive 2013, will they survive in 2014 when the full impact of Obozo Care impacts our nation's population.
The really big impact on the economy will be felt when ObozoCare becomes the law next year. The 2014 total dollar impact or loss of net family $'s after taxes and expenses will be severe.
Those hired for Christmas will be gone for the most part by the end of this week.
What will the real unemployment figures look like in January through December 2014.
ObamaCare, the Grinch which stole Christmas 2013 will take away from each of us, throughout 2014.
Ha! I knew there was an advantage of moving to a low cost of living state and going Galt (somewhat) with my income as well as my spending.
Exemptions are listed in this article.

Thanks. I was searching the internet and found nothing.
Turns out that the cost would be over 8% of my income. Cool. We’ere going insurance free and it’s completely legal. :-)
I will have to check into those.
Just spread the word. The more people we can exempt from this crap the better. ;)
