How would M&S treat an employee who refused to serve Muslims wearing hijabs because it made them uncomfortable?
One hast to be physically capable and willing to do what the job requires.
It’s a condition of employment.
If you are unable or unwilling to do a given job, with all that entails, you need to seek more suitable employment.
So are they going to have signs pointing out the full function checkout lines? Might be racist!
Load up cart full of goods, go to checkout, when they hit the hidden bacon and refuse, then just simply walk out of store leaving them to restock it all...
Screw ‘em...
If bakers, photographers, and florists can't refuse gay weddings on religious grounds, then neither can Muslims refuse to serve alcohol on religious grounds over here.
But we'll soon see...

Okay. Fine. Just take the stuff and walk.
Well, it’s a private business, so it’s their call to make. I think it is a little bit absurd, however. My understanding of Halal food laws (which I admit is not complete) is that they forbid the consumption of pork or alcohol, not the sale of said products to other. I mean, my butcher is Jewish, and he has never had a problem selling me pork chops or Schweinhaxe.
Besides, as Super-Chicken often said: You knew the job was dangerous when you took it. :-)
(BTW, One wonders if the company has a pharmacy, and if a pharmacist working their would have the right to refuse sale of an abortifacient drug on religious grounds?)
That does not make any sense at all.
The $64,000 question is: can muslims refuse to serve gay customers??
It’s disturbing how many times I have read things like this and then have checked to see if it were satire.
Yep. Figures. Let them try that here.
so phony...the 9-11 muslim hijackers were plastered on occasion
they harass employees and make them hide crosses because that may offend some. but muzzies get their religious crap protected?
their rulers deserve revolt and removal.
Here is the irony:
Marks and Spencers are the most famous Jewish business in the UK.
In that case I can refuse to go to a checkout with a towelhead.
M&S faces furious backlash from customers over Muslim policy
Marks & Spencer’s official Facebook page is deluged with messages from customers furious at bosses’ decision to let Muslim staff refuse to serve pork and alcohol to customers, as campaign is launched to boycott store
Marks & Sparks has lost it big time, I see. Well, Brit friends, just F’m.
I bought my share of pork pies at M&S on a trip to London last month and will do that again. They also have self-checkout — even though this is ridiculous. Plenty of muslims in hijabs and even burkas shopping on Oxford St.
