A&Es Woes Over Phil Robertson Firing Intensify with Duck Dynasty Family
By firing the star of the reality show Duck Dynasty, the A&E Network is walking a very fine line between fans and demands from gay rights groups such as the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD).
Interestingly, the lines arent drawn squarely between conservatives on one side and gay rights activists on the other.
Noted writer and lesbian Camille Paglia has expressed outrage over the denunciation of Phil Robertson and affirmed his right to express his religious views on homosexuality. Paglia claims the moral right to speak on the matter given that she was openly gay when doing so brought a person adverse consequences. She said that Robertson has a right to express his religious views even if they are against homosexuality.
I speak with authority here, because I was openly gay before the Stonewall rebellion, when it cost you something to be so. And I personally feel as a libertarian that people have the right to free thought and free speech, Paglia, a professor at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, said on Laura Ingrahams radio show Thursday.
In a democratic country, people have the right to be homophobic as well as they have the right to support homosexuality as I one hundred percent do. If people are basing their views against gays on the Bible, again they have a right of religious freedom there, she added.
She went on to say that he did so via a magazine interview and to punish him for that is Stalinist.
To express yourself in a magazine in an interview this is the level of punitive PC, utterly fascist, utterly Stalinist, OK, that my liberal colleagues in the Democratic Party and on college campuses have supported and promoted over the last several decades, Paglia said. This is the whole legacy of free speech 1960s that have been lost by my own party.
Now, the Robertson family has made a carefully veiled threat that they are not going to move on without their patriarch. They announced yesterday that they are speaking with A&E about the shows future. A&E grossed $885 million this past year and a large portion of that comes from advertising revenue from Duck Dynasty.
Duck Dyansty Family Defends Patriarch Phil
Amidst the furor over Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertsons remarks to GQ, his family has issued a statement defending him. While the statement characterized some of his statements a coarse, they stated they reflected his deeply held religious beliefs coming from the Bible.
According to eonline.com, the family stated that Phil would never incite or encourage hate. We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right. We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. The statement clearly leaves the future of the hugely popular show in jeopardy, since it could not go on without them.
Robertsons comments which state that homosexuality was a sinful behavior and that sex between men was illogical, led to Robertsons suspension from the show. The remarks have ignited a firestorm of argument both for and against Robertson. Both Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and Sarah Palin have come to Robertsons defense, while GLAAD and the NAACP have declared their support for Robertsons suspension. So far Phil Robertson himself has not made any statement regarding his suspension from the show.

Phil Robertsons Entire Family Stands by Him, Implies Duck Dynasty Cant Continue Unless He Returns http://www.eonline.com/news/492746/phil-robertson-s-entire-family-stands-by-him-implies-duck-dynasty-can-t-continue
See my post #45 this thread I await your rebuttal.
That's only partially true. If such termination occured due to race, religious beliefs, sex or age, that's called discrimination and there ARE employment laws against it.......
In fact, your employer likely has a government mandated Equal Opportunity Is The Law" poster in plain view for all employees to read and it might even look like this:
Willie was also asked by the Republicans in LA to run for a seat in the House (I think state not congressional)
I don't know where you get your information from but,
In November, Republican Vance McAllister won an upset win in a Louisiana special election for Congress with the backing of the Robertson family from Duck Dynasty. Many political observers credited their support with McAllister’s win over a state legislator with significant institutional backing.

I've known guys who were somewhat like Phil or Si and hunted with them. A few were friends of my dad and there was never a dull hunting trip because one way or another the persons antics lead into some misadventure. Ever see four guys try to catch a half grown coon and get it aout of a log? Ever see a guy on back country hiking/fishing trip try to take on a black bear with a Derringer? Those were trips I was invovled in. Just one of many where always on the trip things somehow got turned to some side adventure.
As for the Robertsons what you don't see going on behind the scene speaks best of their character. In one episode Mountain Man is in a canoe on a conveyor belt I think. That scence had a lot more going on. Jase and Phil were bewtween the shots talking to Mountain Man as they had when Mountian would drop in on the Duck Call Room off season. The guys in the Duck Call room when not filming {off season} talk about GOD. Their conversations lead to the real salvation of Mountain Man. Go on Youtube and search Duck Dynasty +Mountain Man's Testimony.
Some of their antics are created. It's like So said in his book. My stories are 95% true. You figure out what part is and isn't LOL. BTW Si is married 40 years grown kids and a son with Aspaughers who is career Army himself.
I read your post 45 carefully per your request and have no rebuttal as I don’t see the connection to my post addressing the assault on Robertson for simply stating his beliefs. Homosexuals get to state their beliefs therefore they have no right to prohibit Robertson from stating his!
Feel free to respond and tell where I am missing your point.
The guy isn’t a dummy by all accounts. He has worked with the garbage A&E network for years. He had to know this was going to happen, I mean come on.
Not that the Duck Dynasty story isn’t important, it provides a rallying point. But while the cable reality show story is happening, two more actual states of the union have been black-robed into accepting ‘gay marriage’ within a matter of hours of each other, one of them had an actual amendment that a federal judge overturned. If the decision stands that’s 17 states that have or soon will accept ‘gay marriage.’
But look at the ratio of coverage between the two stories. No way does this happen 10 years ago. I don’t think it’s a good sign, in my opinion. A cable reality show star getting fired for thinking homosexuality is a sin vs. two whole states accepting ‘gay marriage.’
FReegards
She and Rush are good friends. Probably some of his views rubbed off on her.
*blink, blink* :\
Y'all must be big-city. Don't get out to the backwoods much, eh? Here's a clue: A good many of my friends look just like the Robertsons (as do I). There may be a difference between Louisiana rednecks and Montana rednecks, but what those differences may be are not readily apparent.
And no, I do not smoke pot. And I vote Conservative.
nope , sorry , I’m about as country as you can get . Born in the South , last lived in city in 1970 , live on a farm . Bluegrass is my favorite music .Been thru my pot phase long ago and realized now how wrong it was ,and why .When I was a smoker I looked just like them . All the people that live around here that still look like that , also smoke the s#it out of it and all support Obama . My bad (I guess) Sorry for the stereotyping and sorry for the misrepresentation on the Robertson’s , if they are good folks . I have never watched Duck Dynasty , thus my question . If folks look at my post I was asking a question. not inviting stupid flame attacks . So chill y’all .
Thanks for breaking it down. This helps a lot.
That is well said - It is not hard to find out how Phil Robertson stands. He is all over youtube, and he is salt-of-the-earth, as you will no doubt agree if you seek him out. Willie and Jase too.
Well I guess it’s me, but I didn’t read your post in that context. My apologies if I miss read it.
And how do you know what is "the stuff that matters"? Your values system tells you. It teaches you right from wrong.
This is why social conservatism is the underpinning of all conservatism and cannot be separated. So multitask. Conservatives have the brainpower to do that.
LOL In Phils wilder days including booze and drugs he had no beard.
No problem.
