The problem with solutions is that few of them tend to be perfect, even if they act in a mostly benign manner. Actions produce reactions, a principle as true in politics as it is in physics, and those tend to multiply when solutions increase in complexity.
The nature of these unintended consequences changes dramatically when complex solutions turn out to be poorly designed and incompetently administered.
The rollout of the Affordable Care Act has provided many real-world examples of this, but perhaps none so unintended as the consequences discovered by the Seattle Times this weekend. Carol Ostrom, The Times health reporter, told the story of 62-year-old newlyweds Sofia Prins and Gary Balhorn, who werent exactly the models of wild, starry-eyed romantics.
Their nuptials were motivated by a stronger desire to keep their house out of the hands of the federal government, thanks to a little-known key provision of Obamacare. Their meager incomes made them eligible for a federally subsidized health plan, and their assets would be protected.

Anyone saved money yet? And if they did, who paid for the subsidies?
So the adminstration and its minions see this as a way to scam the system they wish to scam the American people...
So it appears they will do whatever they can to mitigate these abuses, to their abuses...
With the way things are going now, with all the mistrust and obvious abuses of power the government is foisting upon us...
Seems to me it is imperative we fire EVERY SINGLE ONE of these politicians...The election cannot come quickly enough...
But I do not see enough people intending to do this around the country...Too many people are not willing to admit they were fooled by these elected officials, so I believe the republicans will lose ground in the House, and forget about taking back the Senate with that vote on the “deal” this week...
There is NO impetus for the republican elite to fight the democrats on any issue for the next two years....
Where we had a chance to stiffle the adminstration and force them to own every measure enacted via E.O. or legislation passed by the Congress...
None of that exists anymore...
Yeah, the winos, druggies, illegal aliens and professional slackards.
And if they did, who paid for the subsidies?
Mostly evil white people, some "Uncle Toms" dumb enough to work for a living and other assorted race traitors.
So all of those people who signed up for Medicaid will lose their homes to the Government when they die.????
I assume they lose their bank accounts too.
Merry Freaking Christmas idiots.
Obama got ya again.
It’s been that way for years when you go on Medicaid.
No one is forced on——they can just buy health insurance themselves and pay for it.
You want healthcare paid for by the taxpayers you then lose your assets. So what!
.
What this also means is that you will see ‘0care’ brides,
like the civil ware brides, or ‘0care’ grooms, sham marriages
of the very old to the very young, to keep a house.
Also, we will see a growing underground economy to hide assets. Which for the US as a 60% consumer economy will slow
down the turn over of money.
Well that was fine before you had to have insurance or pay a fine.
Now with Obamacare many will be forced onto Medicare.
before if you did not want healthcare you could opt out. Just not buy it, don’t owe anyone anything, unless you got sick.
Now you either buy healthcare you cannot afford, be placed on Medicaid under protest or pay a fine.
Also everyone who goes onto Medicaid despite their objections should be told out in the open what is going on.
I do not believe many of those people going on it as a result of this UnConstitutional Bullsh*t know the facts.
So MY taxes should go up to pay for these people to keep their assets?
There is NOTHING unfair about expecting people to pay their own way. In fact that has always been the conservative viewpoint.
Transfer your assets to an LLC, administered by someone you trust,
pay the LLC “rent”.
Upon your death, the LLC liquidates and distributes the proceeds to your heirs.
Now, before you go and say this is ripping off the taxpayers - it’s the forcing of people onto Medicaid that is the ripoff. Since the system is crashing anyway, might was well protect what you have from the thieves in gov’t.
Great targeted Zerocare commercial for political season...

How does getting married protect your assets?
The entire middle class, defined in part by their owning their own homes, is becoming a working underclass. What is left of the middle class — doctors, lawyers, businessmen — is being attacked now. The doctors and businessmen are going to be wiped out by obamacare, and the lawyers will be wiped out as soon as there is no one left to sue.
I read that in England, they have seven “classes”. The highest class is the “elite” class. They are defined by their having something like 140k pounds of wealth. That’s what upper middle class used to be — a nice house and a nest egg. The Elite are only 6% of the English population.
Every person with no wealth is a person who must turn to the government (vote for spenders) for survival (entitlement handouts). This voting block will be unstoppable. All wealth will be in the hands of the government, which is to say, all wealth will have been spent before it is accumulated, which is to say, there will be no wealth.
The conversion is nearly complete. Another year or two, and civilization will be completely entropic (dead)....
The goal being to get this country to a “single payer” system...
A true example of communism if there ever was...
But hey, stupid people voted for this, and anyone who opposes this is a racist, anti-government wacko...
According to a wide variety of polititians from both sides of the aisle...Big name republicans as well...
So how’s communism working out for y’all so far???
Bingo!!!

I agree—most people don’t read the fine print, but ignorance of the law is no excuse.
Does someone with a $500,000.00 home and low income(not unusual around here) really think the taxpayer should pay their medical bills?
.
Assuming they are still on medicaid, the state wouldn't collect until both are dead. However, I read that Washington State was going change the law..
Bump
Sort of like a reverse mortgage between the feds and you, except you are getting free health insurance instead of a monthly check and the feds get your house when you die?
That isn’t the point
The point is we are being forced—FORCED to buy a product we may not want. If we do not buy it we are fined.
NOWHERE in the Bill of right or the Constitution does it give the Government the right to do this.
This is much worse than what started the Revolutionary war.
