Whole Foods CEO John Mackey spoke with Fox News Stuart Varney Wednesday to discuss the negative impact Obamacare is having on the health food retailer.
Mackey told Varney that Whole Foods, which has been in business for 35 years and employees 80,000 workers, is being hit hard by Obamacare. Its raising our costs Well have to cover things that are expensive that we may not want to cover, our team members may not want to have covered, Mackey said. He explained that that costs will be raised, which could either depress wage increases or the corporation will be forced to pass the cost on to Whole Foods employees.
Obamacare mandates that employers must provide health care coverage for employees working more than 30 hours a week, a requirement that Mackey says is counterintuitive.
[The mandate] creates the wrong incentives for employers. It creates incentive for fewer full time workers and more part time, Mackey said. If all our competitors are going that direction, well probably have that same kind of incentive to do the same.
Whole Foods has maintained a 75 percent full time and 25 percent part time work structure, something Mackey says is unusual in retail. Because of Obamacare, Whole Foods will be forced to adjust the full time/part time ratio to 70/30.
Oh, and by the way, his campaign contributions have been either Republican or Libertarian...(in case anybody wants to know)
(link to FEC search) -- he's the John Mackey from Austin.
His workforce seems to be mostly obamabots, at least in this area.

Same with most of the customers.
Great place to shop.
Sometimes when I go there I think I have walked into an extended NPR segment.
Not a good thing.
Sounds like a smart guy...
Just Whole Foods?! Hell just about every business in the whole country Just about every business is being lobotomized by this atrocious legislation, as intended, of course.
Your right by and large, except for one, my CPA daughter! She’s anything but.
I must be honest and say she moved on after 4 years working in the same offices as Mackey.
Although a self-proclaimed libertarian, he has some nutty left-wing beliefs (anti-vax paranoia, etc)
Considering 90% of his customers are Dem Obama voters, boo hoo hoo ...
Nearest Whole Foods to me is downtown Silver Spring...I don't waste my time going there.
Having said that, I feel the same way going to Wegman's.
But I like good food, so I deal with it.
If he doesn't want to push his Alex Jones peculiarities on me, then God bless him.
why would you have a problem with someone relieving Liberals of their/our money?

And Whole Foods supported GMO labeling in Washington state, which would have cost the average family big bux on their food
My conservative and libertarian friends were all saying tha
if he wants it, let Whole Foods label it for their customers who can afford it, not burden working families trying to feed a family
And heck, I like Fritos with my home-made chili. Do I really care if the corn is GMO? I am already have a salt and fat fest with the things. Oh, and did I mention the cheese and the sour cream?
All foods considered...
That is stunning since I always think that Whole Foods is a liberal type company. I have never stepped foot in the place because I believe that they are Obama lover liberals and I might have to smoke a joint, not take a shower for weeks, etc. Just my impression on the place and people I know who go there .really liberal types.
Think of almost anything that ordinary people use during the course of a typical day: food, housing, clothing, a car, etc. If there is a business establishment out there that caters to a customer base that spends 20% to 100% more for something that any middle-class person would pay for the same thing (think of your associates who shop in high-end stores and drive high-end cars), there's a damn good chance that a disproportionate number of those customers are leftists.
Yep. You are so right .perfect overview!
Can’t say I see how that answers my question.
Why would you not want to take as much money from these idiots as you can?
