Whole Foods CEO John Mackey spoke with Fox News Stuart Varney Wednesday to discuss the negative impact Obamacare is having on the health food retailer.
Mackey told Varney that Whole Foods, which has been in business for 35 years and employees 80,000 workers, is being hit hard by Obamacare. Its raising our costs Well have to cover things that are expensive that we may not want to cover, our team members may not want to have covered, Mackey said. He explained that that costs will be raised, which could either depress wage increases or the corporation will be forced to pass the cost on to Whole Foods employees.
Obamacare mandates that employers must provide health care coverage for employees working more than 30 hours a week, a requirement that Mackey says is counterintuitive.
[The mandate] creates the wrong incentives for employers. It creates incentive for fewer full time workers and more part time, Mackey said. If all our competitors are going that direction, well probably have that same kind of incentive to do the same.
Whole Foods has maintained a 75 percent full time and 25 percent part time work structure, something Mackey says is unusual in retail. Because of Obamacare, Whole Foods will be forced to adjust the full time/part time ratio to 70/30.
But the Republican Party is the party of the rich, right? LOL.
I guarantee there are a lot more obama lovers than haters at Whole Foods. And their prices are way too high. Sprout’s is about to give them a run for their money.
Great place to shop.”
That would be true. But not a good place to shop when you are on a very limited income or have a large family to feed.
Agreed. I’ve only been to a few when traveling. It’s an impressive operation in my limited experience.
That’s not what I notice at my Whole Foods. Mostly a conservative crowd with a lot of pickups in the parking lot. I don’t think too many liberals shop at Whole Foods - usually they go to the Wal-Mart Super Store.
Great, but I bet all the employees are libs. Therefore.....cry me a river....
Took the guy’s deposition several years ago and he showed up barefooted and claimed he didn’t know who his employer was.
I remember reading an article in the WSJ many, many years ago about a writer interviewing a scientists about natural and artificial fertilizers.
Q: What did people do before the advent of artificial fertilizers.
A: People used shit for fertilizers and died at a much younger age.
It appears that few FReepers posting on this thread shop or have ever step foot in a Whole Foods. It’s not just rich, liberal hippies who shop there. I shop at Whole Foods and I’m far from liberal and far from rich. People of all walks of life have different priorities no matter how much money they have or what kind of auto they drive. It makes me ashamed to see FReepers denigrate with such a wide brush those who choose to spend their money somewhere different than they themselves would choose. You sound like the snide, self-righteous liberals you abhor.
John Mackey, is is also co-author of the book Conscious Capitalism which was displayed prominently in the Whole Foods of my liberal leaning town. It's fantastic that the shoppers are exposed to ideas they would not see at their local book store.
I thought liberals hate Whole Foods, because they are non-union. I am so confused....
And Whole Foods supported GMO labeling in Washington state, which would have cost the average family big bux on their food

That is probably the ONLY thing I don’t mind about them. LOL

Where I live, the store is referred to as “Whole Paycheck “.
LOL.

Sometimes, it’s just for sport. I wouldn’t take the jabs too seriously.
