2008 Pentagon Report (March 2008):
China's Growing Military Space Power

By Leonard David
Special Correspondent, SPACE.com
March 6, 2008

GOLDEN, Colorado — A just-released Pentagon report spotlights a growing U.S. military concern that China is developing a multi- dimensional program to limit or prevent the use of space-based assets by its potential adversaries during times of crisis or conflict.

Furthermore, last year's successful test by China of a direct-ascent, anti-satellite (ASAT) weapon to destroy its own defunct weather satellite, the report adds, underscores that country's expansion from the land, air, and sea dimensions of the traditional battlefield into the space and cyber-space domains.

Although China's commercial space program has utility for non- military research, that capability demonstrates space launch and control know-how that have direct military application. Even the Chang'e 1 — the Chinese lunar probe now circling the Moon — is flagged in the report as showcasing China's ability "to conduct complicated space maneuvers — a capability which has broad implications for military counterspace operations."

Most of the commenters in the article put the mushroom cloud over Moscow although to my eye, it looks north of Moscow, closer to St. Petersburg.

Back when Harry Truman dealt with McArthur (like a democrat) was before it was known democrats always make screwy decisions..

Democrats have always been Moonbats..
McArthur would have solved many problems during Korea with the Chinese.. and
Patton would have solved many problems in Europe by kicking the bejesus out of the Russians.. after WWII..

AND McCarthy would have solved many more problems by flushing out the commies out of the federal givernment...

It’s LACK OF exposing and prosecuting democrats is the source of most of AMericas problems.. for a hundred years..

Not to give the Chinese credit, but that mushroom cloud juts far out through the atmosphere, and I can see huge seismic waves tens of thousands of feet high radiating away from the cloud. My guess is someone decided to troll by using a picture of a life-ending impact on the planet.

Why would the Chinese attack the US? They would just destroy their equity; better to just foreclose on us...

Maybe they scrambled to get this display together and found an old nuclear poster lying around and used it without thinking about this photo going global....or it's a fair warning and I'm glad the US is up wind of Europe! Underground bunkers anyone?

No disrespect, but I'm just pointing out that this story would be mocked & deleted if it were sourced from Infowars.

Oops...they posted it, too. </sarc>

China deserves all the congratulations in the world for landing its first spacecraft on the Moon. It’s a big deal – both for China and humanity at large.

Right. Welcome to 50 years ago.

The Chinese who set up the display were from Beijing and innocently mistook the mushroom cloud as “smog”.

Anyone who has read Robert Heinlein’s “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress” understand that the moon is the ultimate High Ground to fight from.
