CENTENNIALDemocrats have long insisted the states new gun laws were passed to help stop mass shootings, but Gov. John Hickenlooper said Sunday that the measures did nothing to prevent a teen gunman from storming Arapahoe High School.
In an interview on CBS-TVs Face the Nation, the Democratic governor was asked why the laws failed to avert Fridays shooting at the suburban high school.
You actually passed some pretty tough gun laws out there in Colorado after those other incidents happened, and yet they continue to happen, said moderator Bob Schieffer.
Hickenlooper responded that Coloradans care deeply about two things: protecting their Second Amendment rights and making their communities safer.
So things like universal background checks, I think they are going to make us safer, but in this specific case arent going to make a difference at all, said Hickenlooper. And thats the challenge.

If the laws didn’t help, THEN REPEAL THEM, Hickenlooper, you pansy! They are infringements on the Constitutional right to keep and BEAR arms.
Our rulers ignore our Constitution and disobey God’s commandments, in particular “thou shalt not kill”. We can debate legalizing murder (abortion) but there is no debate that it (abortion) is murder.
Yes, this is probably news to you, because the American Pravda Press WILL NOT REPORT THAT.
Your sarcasm detector needs maintenance.
Oh, I knew that. Remember, I live just 20 miles from that school.
I also used to do volunteer security runs (While armed) around eight neighborhood schools on my days off after Newtown -until last May when school ended.
That guard got in and the killer ended himself 80 seconds after he started.
There was, of course, an armed officer stationed at Columbine as well during that incident.
Chickenpooper promised that his laws would bring about an active-shooter-free panacea. They didn’t.
Now, who’s gonna hold him responsible? The parents? The voters?
Was it just words? Something a politician says? Does it matter when a politician makes empty promises and people die or are seriously wounded, despite the promises?
What was this law for, Chickenpooper? How was this high school student able to defeat the intent and will of the mighty Colorado State Government? The people like Hudak and Morse and Giron, who are (were) so smart that they DIDN’T HAVE TO LISTEN TO THE PEONS WHO ELECTED THEM? Smarter than the people who were DENIED THE CHANCE TO SPEAK as this law was being deliberated, because they apparently just didn’t know enough to contribute in any meaningful way? For heaven’s sakes, aren’t they smarter than a mere high school student who ultimately made it into a gun free zone with a gun? How could this happen? DIDN’T THEY DO THEIR HOMEWORK?
Personally, if I were the parents of the girl who got shot, or just a concerned parent with kids in that school, I’d be in Chickenpooper’s face, following him to events, asking him why he wasted the time and taxpayer money on something that did NOTHING, while forgetting the proposals like arming teachers and eliminating gun-free-zones that could have made a difference.
If that librarian, or ANY teacher, had the capacity to return fire, then that girl might not have become a victim. As it is, she will be living with the consequences Chickenpooper’s harmful and liberty infringing laws for the rest of her life.
Own it, Chickenpooper. That girl’s blood is on your hands.
Yeah. Duh.....
Methinks the gun grabbers do not want the armed security precisely because they do want the massacres. Just remember Fast and Furious.
Amen, libstripper. Oh, by the way, what are the Whigs doing about the Fast & Furious conspiracy today? Oh, by the way, what are the Whigs doing in Colorado these days?
I heard the other night that about 72 of hundreds of thousands of background checks have been prosecuted.
That said, and assuming the accuracy of the statement, do “background checks” make us even 1% safer?
If the lefties would spend those funds prosecuting ALREADY ARRESTED VIOLATORS of gun laws instead of turning them loose on the street we WOULD BE a lot safer!
5 will get you ten that the black punks that shot the lawyer in the jersey parking lot were out on bail or on probation and had weapons violations in their past.
I say that if you have a “weapons violations” in your past, and are convicted of another weapons violation that you should be treated like a “child molester” and be imprisoned for like 30 years JUST FOR USING A GUN IN COMMISSION OF A CRIME. The crime itself then would be extra.
But, alas, this means a lot of work for lazy ass prosecutors and simply won’t happen!
Specifically, "the challenge" to which he refers is the need for more oppressive gun laws. I wonder what he has in mind this time, and how many Rats he wants to take down with him?
Uh-oh.. Gov. Chickenpooper hasn't yet learned that a rare moment of candor can earn you a hostile call from the White Hut.
You actually passed some pretty tough gun laws out there in Colorado after those other incidents happened, and yet they continue to happen, said moderator Bob Schieffer.
Hickenlooper should have responded .... Well Bob we knew that a few more gun laws on top of the hundreds of Federal and State laws already on the books were not going to change things. Sick evil people we continue to kill other people. We just di what we needed to do to fool the gullible voters.
“and be imprisoned for like 30 years JUST FOR USING A GUN IN COMMISSION OF A CRIME. “
I think this is the case Federally, there is a charge for that. Not sure but many states, I think, have laws about possession of a firearm during commission of a crime.
Since these are rarely used I have to conclude that the Powers That Be need a certain amount of street crime.
The one thing we should all understand about laws is that laws do not prevent crime. They only assign punishment. The threat of punishment has little effect on these people who are mentally ill.
Hey Loopy! It look like your homicide laws aren’t working very well either. Colorado needs to pass some tougher homicide laws. Maybe make them tougher than Chicago, New Yawk and California’s homicide laws which are some of the “toughest” in the country. LOL! Fools! IT’S THE PEOPLE, STUPID!
