Hickenlooper: New Gun Laws Had No Impact on Arapahoe HS Shooting
Colorado Observer ^ | 17 dec 2013 | Valerie Richardson

CENTENNIAL—Democrats have long insisted the state’s new gun laws were passed to help stop mass shootings, but Gov. John Hickenlooper said Sunday that the measures did nothing to prevent a teen gunman from storming Arapahoe High School.

In an interview on CBS-TV’s “Face the Nation,” the Democratic governor was asked why the laws failed to avert Friday’s shooting at the suburban high school.

“You actually passed some pretty tough gun laws out there in Colorado after those other incidents happened, and yet they continue to happen,” said moderator Bob Schieffer.

Hickenlooper responded that Coloradans “care deeply” about two things: protecting their Second Amendment rights and “making their communities safer.”

“So things like universal background checks, I think they are going to make us safer, but in this specific case aren’t going to make a difference at all,” said Hickenlooper. “And that’s the challenge.”

When did they pass the law allowing the armed school security?

“So things like universal background checks, I think they are going to make us safer, but in this specific case aren’t going to make a difference at all,” said Hickenlooper. “And that’s the challenge.”

Having an armed presence in the school itself made a huge difference. Something the gun-grabbers think is dead wrong. Quite telling.

The shooter purchased the shotgun legally after passing a background check.

The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

You can tell that there's an election next year. The Chickenchoker would be calling for more laws if there weren’t.

This one nails the gun control narrative, restricting second amendment rights didnt work.

Have they tried posting ‘Gun free zone’ signs near the schools?

Obamacare is going to kill/injure more kids than school shootings.

Yeah. I think Hicklooper has morphed into Chickenlooper after the recall vote and secession movements and Sheriff’s telling him to stuff his stupid gun laws.

Having an armed presence in the school ...... something the gun-grabbers think is dead wrong.

I have a lib acquaintance who thinks an "armed presence" in schools frightens the children (so therefore, he wants all guns taken away from everybody). The 'dead wrong' is unfortunately accurate .... the libs are wrong to not want an armed presence that is a proven deterrent & more kids will be DEAD if they get their way.

Just as the Affordable Care Act has nothing to do with health, gun control laws have nothing to do with public safety. The first one will cede control of our finances to the government and the second one will destroy our ability to wrest back the government control from the tyrants. It is a race to see if we will wake up and act before they are strong enough to stop us, if it isn’t too late already.

When did they pass the law allowing the armed school security?

There's a few schools in Colorado that have some armed, "Resource Officers."
But it would have helped if the democrats wouldn't have nuked SB 13-009 (Allowing CCW in schools for school staff).

Comment at the site from KiethC says it well:

So, to recap, the gun laws that were forced on Colorado and were so counter to our culture that we’ve had the first recalls in our state’s history had no preventative effect on someone inspired to perpetrate a mass shooting – which was the very type of event that ostensibly inspired said laws. And what *did* bring about a swift end was the presence of an armed person challenging the shooter – which is what’s been said by “gun people” from the get-go.

Not much to add here, except: the story goes out of its way to downplay the actual presence of an armed officer in the school for the specific purpose of stopping an event like this. Remember the outrage that was reported by the media when this was suggested by the NRA? No mention of that either.

A “law allowing” was never necessary.

It’s called FREEDOM.

What “law” “allowed” the last hundred tasks you did today?

The new gun laws will never have any impact on any future assaults.

Look at the last 20 mass attacks across America.
None of the new laws would have stopped any of them.
18 of those case involved legally obtained weapons.
Only 2 of those cases involved stolen weapons, and theft was illegal before the new laws.

The only way people would notice abortion if there was only one center in the US where you could go to have one. Then post the daily count. Abortion is a singular event at clinics. In 2008 (last year I could find) there were 1,212,500 abortions performed. If there was a disaster where that many people were killed ......

The people forcing more gun laws do not care about safety or security. Anything that restricts ownership is the goal.

If they passed a gun law that caused the murder rate to double and the violent assault rate to triple, they would not care since that was not the goal. The goal would be to make some innocent guy submit to a 3 month psychiatric evaluation and colonoscopy and require a 24/7 armed guard for his .22 Buckmaster target gun. That’s progress!
