“I dont watch that much. Other than classic Me-TV stuff, Top Gear and Doctor Who (expect arrows), some Military Channel and weekend long runs sometimes of TCM, the rest could pretty much go away I doubt I would care.”
Fine, but if one can say, “I don’t like B&N because of these values they alledgedly impart,” how can one not say the same of TV as a whole? OK, there may be one or two ok shows, but Barnes and Nobles has many fine books. If we eschew a store because of a lack of morals/values we must likewise react to TV.
“Well, I happen to like NFL Football and NCAA Div I football.
Lots of shows with conservative values: Duck Dynasty, Gold Rush, Bering Sea Gold, American Restoration, Pawn Stars, etc.”
Well, I happen to like many books available at Barnes and Noble. If we boycott Barnes because of their lack of values, even though they have some good stuff, don’t we do the same to TV? Remember, your cable subscription supports alot of things you likely do not agree with.
<I have an advanced degree in library science and have sought employment at a few book stores and have never been interviewed let alone hired.
Gee. I teach LIS and every year a few of my students either work at a bookstore or left one to come to grad school. They don’t seem to have a problem getting hired out here in the heartland.
I generally buy from amazon, and these days prefer Kindle books, but I go in a book store every now and then. I never have a problem with the help. I don’t know what folks are talking about, but then, I am in the heartland where people, even if they don’t like your politics, are usually polite.
Then possibly, they have changed from hiding Rush’s books, not the new kid’s book, in the fiction section.
