The United States named a new Full Admiral in Washington, D.C. Friday--and it's an African American woman. She's will be the first ever female in Naval history to win a fourth star assuming the Senate approves President Obama's nomination. The Navy announced her nomination in an official release.
Vice admiral Michelle Howard,53, is currently the deputy chief of naval operations, plans, and strategy.She will serve as the Navy's second ranking officer, vice chief of naval operations, just a single step below the Navy's top officer, the chief of naval operations.

My view of negatiating with pirates is either an attempt at appeasement or as a delaying move to get assets in place - to apply suppressed rounds, knife blades, and piano wire. I would prefer the latter.

From reading her bio, you are telling me that a person whose highest command at sea was an LSD is making four stars ahead of others on that promotion list?
Are you really going to tell me you are good with an affirmative action promotion?

There are apparently a lot of people who think that because she has the right color/ethnicity/gender/sexuality, then it is just fine to promote that person.
If anyone is foolish enough to think that this is nothing more than a political and affirmative action appointment, read her bio, then read the bio of other active admirals who have reached the rank of full Admiral (O-9).
It isn’t hard to do this, because there are not that many full Admirals..
Problem is, is isn’t just the Navy. They are neck and neck with the Air Force in this respect, followed by the Army and the USMC.
This is endemic. And we will pay the price eventually. And those who scream the loudest in protest will be those responsible.

I don’t have a problem at all with using our military for these types of things. There are a lot of facets to it beyond the simple rendering of humanitarian aid. We develop good relationships with the people in that area, our military gets real life experience at operating in areas with little or damaged infrastructure, and so on.
I think I like the way General James “Mad Dog” Mattis put it when he popularized the motto of the First Marine Division: No better friend, no worse enemy.”
But when you really think of it, our military motto should be something along the lines of: “If you mean us ill, we will break you and everything you own.”
As soon as I saw the title I thought, well you know what I thought and I was right.
A female Colin Powell. A mulatto, of course. A Pentagonian exhibit, with no combat experience, now commanding the SEALS, and the USMC? With a Red Chinese navy, that is beginning to act like it is wanting to pick a fight, we get a woman in charge of the most elite fighting services we have?

You know our military is not being run by perverts...It is run by the military...it is good as it ever was...It is as strong as it ever was and just as bad ass. You do not spend much time with military do you? They would not agree with one thing you have said. Our military has gone nowhere..They are the best of the best. Always have been. I ran your posts by two soldiers. I cannot publish their comments I would be banned for language. The kindest thing they said was how out of touch you must be and how little you know about the military.
“be our military again?”...That is absurd. It went nowhere. It is where it always has been. It is the strongest and the best.
Propoganda? It was an interview with a soldier who has written the book “Sole Survivor”...His story is amazing.
