Springsteen Guitarist: ObamaCare 'Almost Worthless' By Noel Sheppard Created 12/14/2013 - 2:27pm
Steven Van Zandt, the guitarist for Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, came down strongly on ObamaCare Thursday.
In a video interview, Van Zandt said Barack Obama's signature legislation is "almost worthless."
Van Zandt believes we're having the wrong conversation in this country.
"We waste two years talking about healthcare, and Im like, why are we talking about healthcare when we should be talking about health?" he said.
"I spend six months a year in Norway," offered Van Zandt. "Healthcares free in Norway because everybodys healthy."
"You cant even discuss healthcare in a logical way," he continued. "And I know his thing is going to help a few people, and thats nice."
Van Zandt mentioned that the parts of ObamaCare concerning preexisting conditions and folks being able to stay on their parents' insurance till the age of 26 (he actually said 25) were "nice things."
"But mostly its almost worthless," he said, "because we need to be talking about health. We have two out of three people obese in this country."
What's interesting is Van Zandt is certainly not the picture of health himself, but that didn't stop him from pointing fingers.
"Were a little bit lazy, we dont exercise enough," he correctly stated. "Maybe we eat too much, but thats not really the reason."
What does Van Zandt think is really making our nation fat?
"The reason is the preservatives and additives and steroids, all this gluten and every other junk thats in our food. We take care of that and then we start talking about healthcare. Lets get this under control. Lets get our health under control."
I'm not sure gluten is the issue, but certainly processed foods are part of the problem.
I'm surprised he didn't mention soft drinks which, quite frankly, I don't understand how any intelligent person can consume on a regular basis.
But Van Zandt was largely correct: so much of the problem with American healthcare is the American diet and the poor fitness regimes practiced by most of the population.
Yet he stopped short of exposing the dirty little secret: much of our economy is dependent on overeating and poor fitness.
Before you scoff, think about how many people would be unemployed if everyone in this country ate properly and was in shape.
And that's why we can't have this conversation.
As an aside, this isn't the first time Van Zandt was critical of Obama despite Springsteen being a huge supporter.
Last year he called the President a "eunuch."
LOL. I never looked at it that way.
The problem is that the poor don’t have access to high quality gyms.
Mr. Van Zandt, you may want to start your own band.
The commie libs are starting their push for “single payer”. Of course, by “single payer”, they mean having somebody else pay their bills for them. 338 million plus 30 to 40 million amnestistas? “There ain’t that much money in the world.” - Brother Dave Gardner.
health care systems like that might work in a country where the people have a strong work ethic.
It cant work here because we have generations of welfare people who haven’t picked up anything heavier than their can of Old English 40s.
Obviously, he’s angling for Single Payer. But the crux of his argument is correct (perhaps, unintentionally): “Healthcare” does not mean either good “health” or good “care”. And a point he likely doesn’t get: The greatest failing of centralized healthcare systems is that they provide neither.
I again commend an excerpt of Ronald Reagan's 50+ year old warning about Obamacare (although he doesn't use that exact term):

Bwaaaa! Thataway Steve!
I just love rock stars lecturing people about how to eat.
Shut up and sing. If you can..
Does he want us to live off of Herring and schnaps?
Nice red herring. Here's the reason why people don't take care of themselves and eat healthy. Because they don't have the incentive to thanks to 3rd-party payers. Someone is always footing the bill for someone else, be it employers, government, or insurers.
If people paid out of pocket for routine and moderate health-care expenses, and bought a high-deductible plan through the market for catastrophic or chronic illnesses, we wouldn't be having these problems and there would be no need for ZeroCare.
Well, he’s still got his side project “Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul” . . .
Next time Hunchback Van Zandt goes to Norway he should
take Springsteen with him and stay.
“Healthcares free in Norway because everybodys healthy.”
Geez what an idiot. Aaa who cares, a mediocre guitar player
in a mediocre band.
To be fair, 40’s of O’E come in a bottle.
I don't know if he's healthy, but he ain't good lookin'.
Let’s keep in mind this guy’s problem with Obastard is that he’s not leftist enough. He’s one of those.
To date more people have lost their health insurance coverage than even the most optimistic estimates claim have signed up. (of course now there's a question of if they are even signed up) When the employer mandate kicks in, more people stand to lose their insurance coverage than obamacare was ever even designed/claimed to cover. In other words, obamacare is a guaranteed to be a net loss to the Country in terms of healthcare coverage. Along the way we get to trash the economy, middle class, and health insurance industries. Great job guys.
So as far as I can see there is absolutely nothing good, nothing positive about obamacare. There are a whole lot of significant negatives in the "con" column. There is not one single thing I can see in the "pro" column.
Norway also decided to extract that oil they are sitting on, despite the wailing of the environmentalists that claimed it would damage Norway’s fishing industry.
It didn’t, and now Norway it the 8th largest exporter of Oil in the World which allows them to provide jobs (3.5 Unemployment rate) and Health Care to its people along with money to take care of those that are retired.
The US chooses to ban domestic exploration and drilling, has doubled its dependency on foreign oil since the last Oil Embargo and instead of using our natural resources to enrich our country, we buy oil from the volatile Middle East.
Of course, if we were to do that, the US would become an even bigger country of dependents that would want to “get paid” from all that oil money and would sit around all day, getting obese and suffering from even more health problems.
Norway is a homogenous country and doesn’t “celebrate diversity” like we do here.
The results speak for themselves.
YIKES!
I did not recognize Little Steven...
No evidence Nordic diet prevents heart disease.
