December 13, 2013, 01:42 pm Pelosi: GOP 'disrespects' women

By Mike Lillis Republicans in Congress have a general "disrespect" for women that's reflected in their legislative agenda, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi charged Friday, adding that she applauds the prospect of America having its first female president.

The California Democrat said the GOP's policy priorities – from reproductive health to the economy to the environment – are evidence they have little concern for the issues women care the most about.

"[It's] disrespect," Pelosi said in an interview with MSNBC's Alex Wagner that aired Friday afternoon. "Whether it's pay equity and raising the minimum wage, whether it's paid sick leave, or whether it's support for … child care in our country."

Pelosi said she's been warning for more than two decades that congressional Republicans are opposed, not only to abortion, but to the notion of family planning.

"People didn't really believe me until [2011] when Republicans took the majority [and] one of the first things they did was to say, 'We're going to shut down government rather than fund Planned Parenthood,'" she said. "They've told me over and over again that they're not for family planning, domestically or internationally. It's a stunning thing."

Her comments came a week after House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) conceded that Republicans need to work harder to cater to women – constituents and candidates alike.

"Some of our members just aren't as sensitive as they ought to be," Boehner told reporters last week in the Capitol.

His remarks coincided with reports that the National Republican Congressional Committee has been counseling Republican staffers on how to run more effective campaigns against female opponents.

Pelosi, the first female Speaker in the country's history, has long-advocated for a greater role of women in politics. But she suggested Friday that the hurdles to success are much higher, particularly at the highest ranks.

"You know one thing for sure: If you're a woman and you're effective, you will be a target," Pelosi said. "It isn't a problem for me, because I care more about being effective than I care about being a target. But it is a problem when I'm trying to attract other women to run."

Pelosi also cheered the notion that the country might see its first female president in Hillary Clinton.

"I always thought that we would have a woman president long before Congress would recognize that women should lead the way here, because the American people are way far ahead of Congress in terms of recognizing the leadership of women in our country and the desire to have a woman president," she said.

"And now we have the prospect, and that's a great thing."

'Disrespect' seems so trivial compared to what the IRS is doing, or what the NSA is doing, or what the HHS is doing, or what the DOJ did in Mexico or to Fox News, or what the State Dept/WH did in Benghazi, doesn't it?

80% of health care plan decisions are made by women.

"You can keep your health care plan. Period." - President Obama

"You can keep your doctor. Period." - President Obama

What's that about disrespecting women?

“with no consequences”

yeah they’d like there to be no consequences and they’d like to pass enough laws and pretend that can make their desires real;

like 0 care is supposed to take care of everybody in concept but the forced legislation is not compatible with the Real World.

“No Consequences” is not compatible with Reality either.

Problem is, whenever they bump into Reality and the Laws of Physics and the Laws of Biology, they scream all the louder that the “anti-women” or “anti-gay” or whatever crowd is thwarting them, out of “hatred”.

They do not learn anything when they run head-long into reality. They are impervious to the laws of logic and reason.

They are simply delusional and I am so sick of their nasty rhetoric.

JFK respected women, didn’t he? The Dems are doing everything they can to change the subject about Obamacare and any little diversion to focus attention elsewhere is what they want.

I always thought that we would have a woman president long before Congress would recognize that women should lead the way here.......?

Ms. Pelosi fails to realize that she, Ms. Clinton, Susan Rice etc. have so fouled the political water for women, few have any desire to join them in the mire-of-politics they have created for women.

Pelosi wouldn’t know the meaning of respect if it bit her on her flabby ass.

I notice the satanic left uses womyn as a tool for almost everything anti-American. They even convinced them that killing their own children is the ultimate expression of freedom.

said the filthy hag who heads the socialist gridlock in congress...

I know nazi references get old, but this is precisely what they did before Hitler assumed the chancellorship. They blocked legislation and gummed up the works in the Reichstag so that the population would see a “dysfunctional” government which of course could only be “fixed” by giving the nazis their way. And we all know how that story ends.

This is why you can’t try to “thread the needle” with
social liberalism
and
fiscal conservatism.

Social liberalism is all about there being no consequences,
but there always are consequences. If the person BEING “socially liberal” has to pay for the consequences,
then their freedom is being impinged. Someone else HAS to pay for the consequences according to social liberalism.

Yep, reality does not favor liberalism. Period.

What better way to have someone else pay for a consequence of your behavior than to murder the most innocent human being possible?

“This is why you can’t try to “thread the needle” with
social liberalism
and
fiscal conservatism.”

Hmmmmm, interesting point.

I wonder how many people fall into that category? Or is the Republican Party being encouraged to “reach out” to a small or non-existent contingent? Hmmmmm . . .

For if someone were a fiscal conservative, they apparently are open to reason and logic, and the laws of economics, the practicality of balancing a budget, and some of human behavior such as the incentives to save and produce, the ill-effects of excess taxation, etc.

Such a person could believe in social-irresponsibility only by compartmentalizing logic and reason to part of his or her brain. Which is again delusional . . .

OR maybe they would able to be convinced by facts, logic, and reason on other issues . . .

. . . interesting

Until someone begins to respond by ridiculing these people as the spawn of Bill Clinton, Anthony Weiner, and mayor Villaraigosa, aka the real source of the war on women, it appears we'll continue to lose.

Women know that it there is no war on women. This false charge is just the fig leaf they use to justify their choice of a marxist style government.

Young women prefer a sugar daddy government to provide for their needs and undo their excesses. They along with some minorities are the perfect dependent constituency for a Marxist government who promises to provide for them.
