Fox News ^

A cross atop Mount Soledad in California is an unconstitutional religious display on government land and must come down, a federal judge in San Diego ruled late Thursday.

U.S. District Judge Larry Burns ordered the cross, which honors veterans, must be removed within 90 days -- a decision that could result in the case being sent back to the U.S. Supreme Court. Burns immediately stayed his order pending an expected appeal.

It is beautiful; but how many hills are there in this country that are on private land and I wish a cross be put there by the owner. If we don’t take this country back, it will be lost for our children.

The Buddhas of Bamiyan were dynamited and destroyed by the Taliban in March 2001.

So now California will be following in their footsteps?

Expectations, reality, and what should be, are often quite different. As Christians, we know the scripture tells us of the tribulations that are coming, so we are forewarned.

Nothing is settled for the Left/Liberals until they get what they want.

Time for us to find legal ways to get rid of these stinking judges. Viral videos is one great way to reach a lot of people. The idea of blowing the Cross into a pile of rubble and naming it Mt. Democrat Party is a good one.

Should be done under a continuing video theme of “Of Things to Come”.

Examples: Illegals getting food stamps, money, housing, drivers licenses, etc. while legal Americans stand in unemployment lines, are evicted from their houses, get hit by illegal drivers, rising crime rates.

Example: The US ship the Cowpens turning around when challenged ty the Red Chinese PLAN tank landing craft. See the story tonight here are FR.

Example: American citizens being tortured in Cuban (Alan Gross) Iranian (Levinson; the Iranian-Americans), North Korean (Newman, just released, but another Korean-American still is there), and Red Chinese (some but don’t know their names, one was a clergyman).

And Obama playing golf!

Time to play hardball but instead of just hitting the ball, we also bash in a few leftist head for their cowardice and treason.

Videos and the internet are the way to go, baby. The commies use this method all the time (esp. No. Korea and Iran), so why not turn it back on them, but do a better job of it?)

There will be appeals. This is ludicrous. Next will it be unconstitutional to wear a religious symbol openly on your neck while walking on a public sidewalk?

No, California would never destroy a Buddhist statue; it is about to destroy a Christian statue. Big difference.

The Jewish War Veterans should be ashamed? They could have arranged for a Star of David to be erected nearby. They serve to invigorate the forces of godless nihilism.

Next will it be unconstitutional to wear a religious symbol openly on your neck while walking on a public sidewalk?

There cases in Europe when it was argued whether a cross on the neck is permissible as ornamental jewelry or still too offensive. The question whether a crucifix worn for the purpose of identification with Christ is offensive: everyone understood that it would be. The setting was hospitals and perhaps schools, and in one case a TV anchorwoman attire.

Soon, very soon, your prediction will come true.

The original complaint was by an atheist. I am not aware of any Jewish organization’s reaction; please post a link if you can.

I’m no Christian, but it offends the hell out of me that they are suppressing free speech and destroying an historical landmark in the name of the 1st Amendment.

The third paragraph of the article says that the case was brought on behalf of The Jewish War Veterans of the USA. I know of no reactions of Jewish groups.

Of course. It should be of great concern to all people, Christian, Jewish, Muslim and atheists, because in the end it means that no sincerely held deep, life-shaping conviction can be expressed in the country that calls herself free.

Not unless it’s funded by the NEA and involves offending somebody’s sincerely held deep, life-shaping conviction. If they’d only get a giant bucket of p@#$ and put this cross into it somehow without tearing it down, it would make Mapplethorpe immortal, and they’d be fighting to keep it up. This is not Thomas Jefferson’s Bill of Rights.

Right; we are becoming a nation of vandals.

Combine that with militarism and erotica as pretty much the only irreligious aesthetics permissible in the public space, and you will understand why the rest of the world no longer looks at America with a kind eye.

Very sad but the power of Christ is stronger than any judge.

Christian countries perished before. The Middle East has been under Muslim occupation for centuries and the Christian minorities there are in rapid decline; Byzantium is gone; North Africa has no Christians left; percentage of Russian Christians is in single digits twenty years after the destruction of the atheist Soviet state. The anti-religion, and especially anti-Christian sentiment is strong in Europe. We may perish too.

Christ spoke this of His return "the Son of man, when he cometh, shall he find, think you, faith on earth?" (Luke 18:8); this shows that the task of persevering His Church on earth He left to us, and we are not doing a very good job of it.
