The political director of a prominent Tea Party Super PAC predicts that big punches will be thrown within the GOP as groups like his gear up for primary challenges in the 2014 midterm elections against Republicans whom they view as not conservative enough.
I think the 2014 primary cycle is going to be unlike anything that we've seen, said the Madison Projects Drew Ryun. This is going to be the equivalent of a bar room brawl.
The Republican establishment, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, is going head-to-head with the Madison Project in several of the races where the Super PAC is working to replace the incumbent. But Ryun told Top Line they were ready for the fight.
I think it's going to come down to a battle of tactics, Ryun said. They're going to have more money; we're going to have more people. And, basically, who employs the best tactics is going to come out on top of these primaries.
Ryun acknowledged that the Tea Party had fallen short in the past in choosing viable candidates. Its for this reason, he said, that the Madison Project was selective in choosing which candidates to back and pointed to the their support of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz as one example.
Ted Cruz being a great example for us in the 2012 cycle where there's a five-way primary in that Texas primary race. We had the opportunity to meet with him, in a sense clarify for the Republican movement. This is our guy; he went on to win, Ryun said.

Steve Stockman (TX-36) who won this new congressional seat in the Texas delegation decided at the last minute to forgo re-election to Congress...Since when is it “Congress” ONLY when talking about the U.S. House of Representatives and not, both, the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate?
I hope Rove gets hit over the head with a bottle in the bar room brawl.
Someone post pics of roll of nickels, a la, Jimmy Rockford, and a pic of brass knuckles...that’d be cool. I’m not tech enough to know how.
That's an abridgement of a famous quote from Genghis Khan. It's a classic.
Okay. I got it from Conan the Barbarian :)
Conan didn’t do that great of a job in CA. Besides, no one will believe he was born in Hawaii. Ja? Not the vey he speaks.
Linda so needs to go spend more time with her family too.
Ahhhhnold said it so poetically...
Go doggie! lol
It's what they do. They harvest political chips from us, the Right, and sell them to the 'Rats for tax breaks for their Fortune 500 donors.
Cornball doesn’t expect that to happen in 2014. Dewhurst could face a runoff for lt. gov. Then he has a feisty Democrat socialist woman waiting to kick him in the shins. He may run away too frightened to stay in the race.
I might feel sorry for the bottle in that case...;-)
Not sure what you are implying there...
I’ll figure it out though, but dont’ get me wrong, I would like to toss the whole lot out on the street and start over, Congress AND the Senate...
But since it is unlikely ANYONE else across the country would agree that their guy is part of the problem, when you only have to look at yourself in the mirror...
Why are we continuing to vote for compramisers and folks that do not hold on to their campaign principles in the first place??? Ohhhh, wait...Did I say campaign???
Totally different issue to them...what they say in a campaign to get themselves elected is totally different than what they do while in office...
But then again, the majority of people still fall for that bullsh!t...
;-)
