Hillary Rosner, a Colorado-based freelance journalist, tweets about her search for a post-Affordable Care Act health insurance plan:
Hillary Rosner @hillaryrosner Follow Applied for new non-ACA health plan (ACA plans way too $ in CO). Insurer charging me 20% above quote bc I had a c-section. So f****d up.

Here's the thing. You can have it one way on "rate shock," but you can't have it both ways.
There are, broadly, two ways that individual market health insurance could work. One is the situation we have now in most states, where it works more or less like homeowners' insurance: The insurer evaluates how many claims you're likely to make and sets your premium at expected claims plus a profit margin. If you have diabetes, you'll pay more, just like you'd pay more for homeowner's insurance if you lived on the beach.
Rosner is seeing a mild form of that problem. She's pricing out a policy that would start in 2013, meaning it's not subject to ACA rate-setting rules. The insurer thinks her prior Caesarian section makes her likely to make somewhat more claims so it's adding 20 percent to her premium. Rosner thinks that's messed up, and a lot of people agree....

Amazing how many people want to be Goebels
Well we are not losing our insurance but apparently we are losing our doctor because of Obamacare. Went to a Christmas party tonight and was told by a friend who has the same doctor that her husband was in to see our doctor recently. There was a huge marketing push because the doctor is leaving and taking 600 patients with him. He is opening up a concierge service. $1800 a year and he will be your doc.
I knew our doc hated Obama and Obamacare but dang!!!!
This crap is going to effect everyone in one way or another.
Right.
And the only feasible out come is that the insurance companies will be bankrupted, and we'll be at the mercy of the politicians.
God help us.
Herr Reich Minister Joseph Goebbels lived like a king from the twenties until the last days of the Third Reich even though he wasn’t as high up the totem pole as Himmler, Goering, Bormann or a dozen others.
Actually, the author is correct. There is no such thing as a free ride, so someone has to pay more so that someone else may pay less. It’s called socialism. So, earn more and/or take care of yourself, and you’ll have the privilege of taking care of those who don’t.
While there are some people who are poor or ill through no fault of their own, many others have made bad choices, like the homosexual who catches AIDS from sodomizing someone, the alcoholic who can’t hold a job, or the drug abuser who catches hepatitis from dirty needles. Those people will be covered at the expense of others who try to lead more responsible lives.
I guess propaganda paid well
Are you going to join that?
That and the reason the CO resident looked for for out of marketplace coverage in the first place. In certain localities in CO the rates are sky high.
People on the Left forgo logic and slavishly follow and obey their anointed leaders. Witness what happened in Russia with Lenin and Stalin, China with Mao, Korea with Kim and now America with Obama. Dangerous flaw in the psychology of Leftists.
They are first.
Hell yes.
The Marxist first wookie warned early on about them needing a bigger slice of whiteys’ pies, so it’s not like she didn’t rattle her fat tail.
She is very involved in this generational theft.
Those of us who can fend for ourselves will be OK, but a lot of people are going to hurt. It’s hard to feel sorry for the nimrods who voted for them.
Neither should you complain that you only have four policies to choose from offered by only two insurance companies in your area, when you previously had so many choices that you complained about how hard it was to choose.
And you shouldn’t complain that the two companies can only offer policies that are almost identical, so in reality you can’t omit the policy features that you don’t want and don’t need, and thereby reduce the premium.
Central Planning: do us all a big favor! Thank you Comrades!
Wait...we’re not supposed to be talking about this anymore.
We’ve moved on to income inequality and the evil fast-food barons.
Don’t buy the Insurance, pay the fine.
Then when your “pre-existing” condition reappears, or you break your arm, buy Insurance and go to the Doctor. Just have the Ovamacare number on your cell phone so you can call them from the Waiting Room at Emergency to sign up.
Isn’t that what Obamacare says you can do? It isn’t Insurance, it’s Healthcare.
My wife and I have different doctors. Both are doing exaactly as you describe - 600 patients with a yearly enrollment cost.
We are both joining as we believe:
If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor
Because both our doctors want nothing to do with this trash heap of a government run system. We know both doctors well. They are trimming their clients to about 1/2 of what they serve now
Neither voted for the clown
Don’t be too reassured. Eventually the medical boards will put an end to this inequality by restricting or threatening their licenses to practice. Comrade...it is only just to do so, no?
I absolutely agree. Some of my family lives in Italy. When universal health care hit there years ago many physicians ended up just quitting practicing or worked under the table.
Still I cant help but cheer the doctors who are standing up and saying they’re not going to play by the new rules.
There have be a lot of these titled articles coming from the MSM lately.
Is there a new agenda in the J-schools? Did someone focus-test this new style of push-journalism?
