Elian Gonzalez, the focus of a bitter international custody dispute after he was rescued at sea as a child, left Cuba on Friday for the first time since 2000, when the U.S. government returned him to the island.

Gonzalez, who also turned 20 on Friday, traveled to Quito, Ecuador, as part of a 200-member Cuban delegation to a weeklong youth conference there.

"Fidel Castro for me is like a father," Gonzalez said in the recent interview. "I don't profess to have any religion but if I did my God would be Fidel Castro. He is like a ship that knew to take his crew on the right path."

Now a military cadet studying industrial engineering, Gonzalez said he would have suffered had he stayed in the United States.

He would be brainwashed either way even if he was schooled in America.

No. Is Counter Strike set up like Grand Theft Auto, or maybe like Halo? I have almost no gaming experience. Has not held my interest. I also don’t know how addictive they could be, and don’t want to find out.

Its a first person shooter.
You act as acounter terrorist team and rescue hostages
You get to equip your team with different types of weaponry, the MP-5 is often used.

“So. Why was #2 deleted?”

I posted a picture of the young Elian that was in the article (you can see it at the article link) and it must have violated some copyright and that’s why the AM removed it.

I would too, but unfortunately, they never do. They just stay here and want to ruin our country.

Thanks for the post. I’m always interested in the sad saga of Elian Gonzalez.

I’m proud of all the Freepers on this thread. Not one crying the lame “Fathers’ Rights” - he belongs with his father song.

The capture of Elian Gonzalez was the first time I saw pure EVIL in the U.S. government run by the likes of Clinton, Reno, and Holder.

I took my handle aelian nation in remembrance of Elian and in defiance of a country that would sell him to a life under communism.

“I took my handle aelian nation in remembrance of Elian and in defiance of a country that would sell him to a life under communism.”

Thanks for your post — yes, that was definitely one of the low points in our nation and the fact that people just accepted it is even sadder.

The USA is headed towards communism. If he was allowed to stay he would have the same brainwashing.

Sadly, you are so right.

Everytime I see that Nazi pointing that MP-5 at Elian and Donato Dalrymple, there is a side of me that thinks that true justice is if some was pointing an M1 Garand back at them. I know it is pure emotion but when I see bullying like this, Mom always taught me to stand up to them.

They sure tried to make him look matinee-idol pretty, but you can’t hide those angry dead eyes. Something tells me his life in Cuba hasn’t exactly been a bed of roses, and he’s compelled to speak as if it has been.

I often wonder how he would be if he was out of the hands of his handlers, would he speak freely? He looks battered, beaten, like an abused dog. I wish at some point in his life, he would open up, let it out, cry it out and be free again, hopefully soon.
