You must pay your first month's premium before you are insured under Obamacare.
Just because you've picked an Obamacare insurance policy doesn't mean you've got coverage.
If you want to be insured come Jan. 1, you have to pay your first month's premium by your insurer's due date, often Dec. 31.
Sounds simple enough, but federal officials and insurers are concerned that many consumers don't realize they have to take this last step and will remain uninsured. What's more, those who don't pay by then may have their Obamacare applications terminated, forcing them to re-enroll via healthcare.gov for coverage that will begin later in 2014.
The tight deadline and continuing errors with consumers' applications being sent to insurers also risk leaving some folks uncovered. Obama administration officials are advising consumers to check with their insurer of choice to make sure it received their application and payment and that coverage will begin Jan. 1.
Here's the timeline: Consumers have until Dec. 23 to pick an insurance plan on healthcare.gov....

"I NEED YOUR HEALTHCARE INSURANCE INFORMATION"
And so you pull your Healthcare Insurance card out of your wallet or purse and hand it to her. Standard - Operating - Procedure.
So what are the chances that those people who just signed up for Obamacare and will continue to do so right up to December 31 are going have those shiny new Health Insurance Cards when they show up for their January 2nd at 10:30 AM appointment with Dr. MyNewDoctor?
I think we all know the answer to that one. It will make for some interesting news stories come the new year.
“I think we all know the answer to that one. It will make for some interesting news stories come the new year.”
The news media that foisted “The Great ObamaNation” on U.S. is going to turn on him?
Congratulation low information voter you are not enrolled, now here’s the (large) bill..
“People are supposed to pay before they receive a document in the mail that spells out their coverage? They don’t get a bill in the mail?
I’d never pay an insurance bill without those things.”
I had my Medicare Advantage policy cancelled in October. Since I don’t qualify (or actually want) a subsidy, I joined AMAC and went through their HC insurance broker. They have groups of brokers in three cities around the country and they have access to a wide variety of providers. The woman with whom we worked, spent several hours after hours on the phone with both my wife and I. She called us first in response to my e-mail RFQ at 10 p.m. and spoke with us for at least ah hour. The next day she called back at a pre-arranged time, we both selected new Medigap Policies with a reputable company and a new prescription drug policy. To enroll, we were required to call her back at a number that we could determine was not tied to a scammer. All the paperwork was handled via FAX, not on the internet to protect our privacy.
For me, the good news was, that since my Medicare Advantage HMO had been cancelled, I was free to pick whatever new insurance I liked. Such would NOT have been the case absent the cancellation. Since it’s an acknowledged fact that Obama is “raiding” Medicare Advantage to pay for Obamacare, I was glad to be free to get the best possible Medigap policy as a replacement. And yeah, it’s a little more expensive, but no more co-pays, and no referrals. And since my wife had a California-mandated ability to change her policy, she dropped AARP and went with AMAC. All the monthly payments have been set up between the carrier and our bank in a way that assures the security of that information.
Those of you who are retired, need to join and support AMAC. It’s what AARP says they are, but aren’t. The real problem will be that there are huge numbers of unisured. Our broker told us that she had a backlog of 120 people she needed to call and was putting in 12 hour days trying to catch up.
Quite a few probably think that they don’t have to pay because they are “poor”.
YES!!!
FORCED ONTO 0CARE
Not true
So very many questions
CC
I was playing with the subsidy calculator and saw that at $94k for a family of four there is a $5500 subsidy. At $95k the is no subsidy.
If the plan requires a subsidy at $94,0000 it is way over the top. If a plan has a sharp drop off of 6% of annual, earnings at the end, it is exceptionally poorly designed.
What’s this about Medicare and Tricare for Life being forced on to obamacare ? I haven’t heard anything about this.
Who’s the little kitten? I could make her stop crying - unless it was with pleasure . . .
Anyone that uses the website...is an idiot.
“Remember, if patriots and former Obamacare supporters can elect a 2/3 conservative majority to each House of Congress”
Unless some sitting Democrats not up for election, and all Republicans suddenly become conservatives, it can’t be done. 45 current Republicans, plus 21 Dems up for election in the Senate is only 66, vs. the 67 to be a 2/3 majority.
Nobama gonna take over. NOT!
Idiot
Everyone wants free insurance, but no one wants to pay.
The funny thing is that even those qualifying for big subsidies have to come up with the scratch first right? They get to deduct it on their taxes as I have heard, so how does someone living paycheck to paycheck come up with the hundreds of dollars extra each month to pay for something the government forces them to buy.
I was screaming this the other day. When they were talking about how people whould show up at the doctor’s office thinking they had insurance when they don’t. I told hubby.....all insurance companies require a first payment before they ever insure you. How can people be so stupid to not know that?
LOL
On coveredca.gov at least, there’s some talk already that somebody getting a subsidy has to still pay the un-subsidized rate and then get the subsidy by filing the CA tax return and claiming it as a tax credit.
If that’s the case, that’s some eye opening economics: “Can’t afford three hundred dollars per month for health insurance? Here’s a “better” policy — it’s better because it costs six hundred dollars per month — but you will be subsidized five hundred and fifty dollars per month, meaning you only have to pay fifty dollars per month. Oh, and the other five hundred fifty as well — but you’ll get that back thirteen or fourteen months later, if you fill out your 2014 tax form correctly and we agree with you.”
Anyone that uses the website...is an idiot.”
Amen. What I find amazing though is that he supposedly has all this support behind him that supposedly voted for him yet the numbers are not reflected in the number of people who have enrolled. Maybe they just don’t realize that this is one thing they are going to have to do for themselves.
