Earlier this year, Connecticut politicians took advantage of the horrific Newtown shootings to dust off a wish list of draconian firearms restrictions and race them through the legislative process into law. The restrictions wouldn't have prevented the mass murderthey would have been completely irrelevant to the crime, in factwhich may be why they were rammed through under "emergency certification" with no referrals to committees or public hearings. Among other things, the new law requires registration of "assault weapons" and high-capacity magazines by January 1, 2014. Any student of history could have predicted officials' current concerns now that relatively few residents are complying with the law and telling the state what they own as the deadline fast approaches.
According to Hugh McQuaid at CT News Junkie:
As of mid-November, the state had received about 4,100 applications for assault weapon certificates and about 2,900 declarations of large-capacity magazines.
Michael Lawlor, Gov. Dannel P. Malloys criminal justice advisor, said that so far fewer people than expected have registered weapons under the new law. However, he said gun owners should take seriously the consequences of ignoring the law. Disregarding the registration requirements can carry felony charges in some cases, which can make Connecticut residents ineligible to own guns....

Could not pay me enough to live anywhere near that rat infested state.
They are exhibiting ‘concern’. Actually, this is all according to plan. They will use this ‘concern’ to find a way to enable them to go into every gun owner’s home and inspect their homes for unregistered firearms and magazines.
Remember the house-to-house Gestapo searches in Boston after the marathon bombing?
More than 70 million guns sold just since Obama was allegedly elected, and only 4,000 reported in CT? Perhaps the gun grabbers should recognize that their law is not recognized as any more legitimate than the rest of their agenda or their leaders. I don’t think they want to push this any further, and perhaps they should back off from the level they seem to have reached.
I would make a differing observation. Every state passes hundreds of laws each year, and anticipates that everyone knows what they did and have to comply.
Based on walking around in different states over my life....the vast majority of people know little to nothing about what goes in the state capital....what laws they devise...what gimmick is afoot....and how this all works.
For most folks....they track NCAA games, National Football League scores, local robberies, fires in the local town, lack of clothing on no-name Hollywood wannabe stars, and the O’Reilly report. That’s about it.
For the state to assume folks know about this registered weapons law? I doubt if ten percent of the state know it, understand it, and can explain it to someone on the street in sixty seconds. And if they did understand it....they’d just say they waivered in the same way that the President waivered various other laws....leaving the cop wondering if he missed that part of the law that was waiverable.
Good point.
I heard an 18 year old man yesterday ask if the government was still shut down.
BUMP!
when I traveled a lot for work, it was usually to smaller cities and towns. I used to quiz people on how they like where they live and most people had no idea what the basic laws were in their counties no less their states. I would usually ask about the local stores, what “thing” the area was famous for, gun laws and what the taxes were like. The only ones that knew anything about local governance were the farmers and hunters and most really only knew only what they had to know. There were very few people that had a good grasp on state and national politics. This was why the Tea Party was so important IMO.
Revolt is coming.
Guns? What guns? Anyone living in places like Connecticut need to “sell” their guns or take a boat trip. When the law comes a calling, “There are no guns here, they were all stolen.”
Another unjust law being disobeyed, as will Obamacare.
two hand guns and a rifle are missing their owner ...
Anyone know if this law is being challenged in court? Seems to me it wouldn’t mass constitutional muster.
I think Connecticut has a law that if a neighbor reports you as a risk and says you own guns the police can come in and take your gums
They can take your gums? Seems harsh.
“Revolt is coming.”
Well, one can hope, anyway.
Connecticut is yet another state in which legislators have decided to shred the constitution’s Bill of Rights.
Overstepping the bounds of democracy in this fashion serves as an example of the temptations of tyranny, and is precisely what it was from which the Founders were attempting to shield us.
—agree one hundred percent—the level of ignorance even among school teachers ,for example is astounding-—
