Gay men push to end 30-year blood donation ban
The Washington Times ^ | December 1, 2013 | Cheryl Wetzstein

A push by activists to ease the 30-year-old blanket ban on blood donations from gay and bisexual men faces a key test this week as a federal panel hears results of the latest research. The findings will be released amid growing pressure from politicians and advocates, including college students, to change the policy.

Critics say the ban is a hangover from the early, fear-filled days of AIDS, stigmatizing gay men and ignoring advances in treatment and detection in the decades since...

Given the prevalence of Aids in the homosexual community, this is a stupid decision, and we all know how it's going to come out.

, stigmatizing gay men and ignoring advances in treatment and detection

WTF? 'Treatment'? There is no cure for this, just ways to temporarily suppress the symtoms. So, are they saying that it's OK to spread AIDS around, because they've come up with 'treatments'?

Yes, there have been advances in detection, but there is still an period between infection, and when we can detect it, that is too risky.

I give blood regularly, but the only way I would willingly receive a transfusion is if it would kill me not to, or it was my own blood that I was getting back.

“This policy is discriminatory and inadequate,” said a petition drive at WhiteHouse.gov started in early November by students at the University of Michigan.

The students’ solution is to change the questionnaire to ask prospective blood donors, “Have you had unprotected sexual contact with a new partner in the past 12 weeks?”

A “yes” answer would trigger a deferral “based on the window period of HIV,” the petition said. “This change avoids discrimination and addresses risky behaviors that presently go overlooked. All individuals should be eligible to donate if they otherwise pass all of the FDA’s requirements, including a disease-free status,” the petition said.

Ahhh.. College Students...

They are so much smarter, better informed, and more compassionate than the rest of us. They are better medical experts that the Medical Experts. Kinda like Obama, don'tcha know...

Anyway, their proposed question does not help much. (The goggles! They do nothing!) A donor might not have had sex with a new partner in the last twelve weeks, but the HIV status of that parter could have changed at any time since he and the donor started having sex.

Speaking of which, if people who smoke cigarettes are changed more for health insurance, gay people should also be charged more... their health numbers are worse than smokers.

I have said for years — to friends and more than a few radio audiences — that the homosexual community wants the legal right to perform in public acts for which a heterosexual couple would — and should — be arrested for indecency.  If you’ve ever seen the images of how the queers in Frisco and New Orleans behave during their periodic “celebrations” of their “deathstyle,” it has already happened there.   The next two years will give the Nancy Pelosi crowd a chance to federalize their deathstyle.

I really don’t care HOW they got to where they are — recruited or via genetic predisposition — in their genitalia worship (and that’s what it is), I just don’t want them demonstrating their explicit sexual behavior in front of our kids and grandkids.  ADULT homosexuals have the same right as the rest of us to do nearly whatever they wish IN THE BEDROOM, where it belongs.

Why do I call it a “deathstyle?”  For over 20 years, my wife was a member of a well-known ladies chorus.  One of their first directors was a gifted musician who also happened to be openly homosexual.  He died a slow, agonizing death — at age 43 — of AIDS.  How “gay” could THAT be? Most homosexuals — many of whom have as many as several hundred unprotected encounters a year — ARE dead at an early age of HIV infections which explains why there are so few OLD homosexuals. And even that “protection” ain’t. With even the condom manufacturers admitting to a 20% failure rate, it’s akin to playing Russian roulette with your willie.

Bill Clinton’s CDC released figures a few years ago reflecting that fully 85% of all AIDS/HIV cases are
1. Active, non-monogamous homosexuals, (the largest subset)
2. Heterosexuals and bisexuals who have had sex with group 1 and
3. IV drug abusers who share needles.
(Kinda gives new meaning to Romans 6:23, doesn’t it?)
The remaining 15% are those who have contracted AIDS via other, non-sexual/non-drug means SUCH AS TRANSFUSIONS OF TAINTED BLOOD (which one homosexual “leader” on the West Coast URGED his fellow homosexuals to CONTINUE to attempt to contaminate in order to involve the straight community in the push to increase federal funding for AIDS research).

What a guy — er — GAY!

What I worry about most, given that the blood is tested for HIV, is the incubation period were Human Immuno Virus is developing in the individual. The person giving blood could well have been exposed two weeks ago and the test, being for antibodies, would not reflect anything but you would get it also. The most logical thing to do would be to continue the ban.

A BS position by gays. A friend still can’t donate blood just because of being in Europe during mad cow days, and the probability of that is FAR less than contamination by the most sexually promiscuous and infected part of the world population.

This problem is far worse than the BLOOD SUPPLY, it’s a NATIONAL HEALTH EMERGENCY.. Patients with AIDS, and HIV are walking health hazards, susceptible to every communicable disease known to mankind.. As such, the general population should be protected from the potential threats that the afflicted pose to anyone that may be exposed..

However, it isn’t the case, instead of identifying, investigating, and isolating these these threats, as we have in every other contagious disease in our history, the infected have been placed in a protected class bubble..

Taking steps to respond, and protect against the potential lethal threat, we are forbidden, by law from doing so.. The ADA, the Americans with Disabilities Act, is there to protect them, not you..

I know, up close and personally, what can happen if you, or a company, try to protect our fellow citizens.. Read this;

I know we’re supposed to be liberal and lift the ban on donations.

Speak for yourself. I consider the liberal label a badge of shame. I'm conservative and I object to having the blood supply contaminated with AIDS virus.

What is it about 'gay' people that tortures them to use any and every device to force normal humans to believe that they, too, are completely normal - even to the point of risking the human blood supply on this planet.

Every living thing they see reminds them that their "proclivities" are not a part of the natural design of life, so they rage to the only God they know, Government, to normalize them.

I’ ve been a blood donor for almost ten years and they ask all males if they have EVER had sexual contact with another male.

I agree with you. Was trying to be sarcastic and didn’t accomplish that. I meant that the media, this gov’t panel, leading Democrats, gay activists are going to come out and push the end of the ban. In other words, urge us to take the liberal side of this issue, otherwise be called a bigot.

Neither are Ryan White, Elizabeth Glazer, Tom Fogerty or Howard Jarvis.

I think you have Howard Jarvis confused with the other Prop 13 sponsor, Paul Gann. Gann died of transfusion-transmitted AIDS in 1989.

Bingo. They’re good liberals who wish to share the misery. Plus, they think more money and attention will be given to AIDS research.
