SACRAMENTO One longtime critic of federal transportation spending once concluded that it would be less expensive for the government to buy every new transit rider a Jaguar XJ8 than it would be to build certain new rail systems. Unfortunately, California officials may not have realized that the idea of buying people new cars wasnt a serious proposal as much as a way to illustrate a point about excessive spending.
The California Air Resources Board is now embarking on a program that would help poor people buy energy-efficient vehicles. In one scenario posed by the agency, a voucher might even pay the full price for a Nissan Leaf, an electric car with an MSRP above $21,000, or for used cars with lower price tags.
In a staff report released on Nov. 19, the agency analyzes its Enhanced Fleet Modernization Program authorized in 2007. Funded by a $1 surcharge on vehicle registrations, the $30-million-a-year program is essentially a cash for clunkers deal. It provides motorists with $1,000 to $1,500 to retire their high-polluting vehicles.

ObamaCar!
This legislation discriminates against those of us who would prefer to use a shiny new pony for transportation!
"It isn't fascism when we do it!" - Bill Ayers/Obama/Soros/Sissy Matthews...
They’ll likely need another batch of subsidies to pay for upgrading home electrical service to charge the electrics, and then to pay for the electricity.
The poor on welfare are already as well off as some who are paying for their crap

Actually when you factor in the ones on SSI because their ‘gangsta’ sperm donor gets killed while at ILLEGAL work, not having to get up in AM and comingle in traffic to get to a ‘job’, not having to ‘fake it’ for the hours one shows up to make their 40, or SSI because one is a DRUNK or DRUGGIE,-— OR be born addicted -— all things considered, we have ‘allowed’ THEM to get more for NOT working than they ever would for working.
Given rent subsidies, food stamps and subsidies, ‘free’ phones and pumping out kids like an assembly line etc and the POOR are way better off than the Middle Class who are foolish enough to work every day to support those that don’t. The SWHTF when the Middle Class really figures that out and in essence it has started as ‘we’ are giving illegals more and more ‘benefits’ in the gist of humanitarianism.
How ya doin' down there?
Gettin' a little warm yet?
Needin' a drink?
Wantin' someone to go dip their little pinkie in some cool water and let you have that one little drop?
Tough hsit.
Burn forever, MF. Right there next to Uncle Joe, Pol Pot, and The Chairman.
You may be consoled, however, that they named one of Herr Porche's cars after you.
[In krautvoice] Perhaps you have vone down zere, yes? [/krautvoice]
***welfare cars.***
Obamacars with Obamacars. Something along the lines of a TRABANT.

they have no way to maintain the cars, much less somewhere to park them.
liberals are such simplistic idiots.
The very vocal minority will scream “Not one penny for a California bailout!” And we will be summarily vilified and ignored. The takers are the majority. Amnesty will cement that. It saddens me to inform my 16 year old daughter that this once great nation is doomed to nothing greater than mediocrity and at worst, a slide into totalitarianism.
crescent a nod to muslims and commies that he admires, mimics and gives aid to.
Maybe these Socialist unicorn cars will be like the utopian white bicycles that are owned by the State and shared by the public, leave it outside any business and the next comrade who needs it is free to use it.
Having a car is a right. It can be found just after the part of the constitution that explains the right to kill a baby and right before the food stamp rights clause.
I bought a new car in 2011 and asked, where are the ash trays? Was told that an ash tray was a $79 option.
Actually, resurrecting the original VW bug wouldn’t be a bad idea. They’re simple, and cheap to manufacture and operate. Just ignore existing safety regulations, and you’re off to the races (metaphorically speaking).
How can someone be poor when they get a free phone, free food, free money, free car, free apartment, reduced cable TV and free insurance premiums?
While the person who works gets to take home 52% of his “salary” and the rest goes to the lazy slobs?
I know, just call it the "People's Car."
I am quite underemployed right now but my wife and I together still manage to pay our bills and help our children in college.
I watch every day as minorities come in to my store, pay $30 for candy and chips with their EBT cards, then go out to their new Lincolns and Cadillacs while I still pay huge taxes and have cars ranging from ten to 15 years old. We cannot afford to purchase anything near-new let alone one of those big new vehicles the welfare families have.
Plenty of high-polluting old trucks coming up from Mexico.
