Brussels, Belgium (CNN) -- As little Ella-Louise faded away, her tiny, frail body wracked with pain, her heartbroken mother was left to look on, feeling powerless.
Linda van Roy says she could do nothing to help her terminally ill baby in the last hours of her life.
"In that period, they tell you it's best not to give any fluids, because babies survive on little drops of liquid," she said. "So we stopped feeding her. In the end, it was bones and skin and no more baby left."
Ten-month-old Ella-Louise died two years ago with Krabbe disease, a rare and terminal genetic mutation that damages the nervous system.

Maybe the child was in horrible pain fom the disease. Do you have any evidence to the contrary?
Yet there are symptomatic treatments for this disease, which will prolong life and make the patient more comfortable. Why is it that as soon as a kid is sick, some people can only think of hastening death?
Pain can be managed with drugs. In any case, don’t you that being starved and dehydrated might intensify that pain just a tad?

While I wouldn’t want to see a child treated for selfish reasons, neither should it be mistreated for selfish reasons. If it will die, at least have the heart to feed it till it does, and maybe it won’t die.
Forcing this kind of utilitarianism is part of the evil of a system like Obamacare that ruthlessly commoditizes health care. It wasn’t always easy before, but now it’s even worse. A radical refactoring of humanity around the love of God is the only thing that is going to fix our fix.

Sometimes the amounts that the state permits docs to prescribe and the amounts needed are not the same. Sad.
Sometimes, frankly in terminal illness, the poor pain ridden one needs to be, imho, snowed. No one should scream or moan into their death in this day and age.

The woman did what she was told by professionals. Most do not know.
The child had some sort of painful neuro illness. Nothing more difficult to manage than nerve pain. Nothing like two or three weeks with a dying crying child who is not able to achieve any sort of rest. Nothing like losing your child.
