Nope. Perhaps the current occupant of the White House might give me 500 million or so to develop one?

I remember reading a sciFi story about scientists
going for a close orbit of the sun. Perihelion I think
it was called. they used a hollowed out ice comet with
rotation as I recall...only one or two survived.

Just before going behind the Sun it appears to have dual tails, one brighter than the other. When it comes out two tails are there. The latest picture I saw from SOHO was 11/30/13 00:13. Still appears that something is there. That quick U-turn has got to hurt.

He seems to be talking it down a lot, expectation wise, if I’m following his drift right.

Can't wait to see what's waiting for us in January when earth passes through the entry trail. ISON's loose composition might make for an interesting "dust" trail left behind on entry. Have to wonder where all of this debris is headed as well. Most will exit but this is a huge envelope of material that has gotten scattered about - over twice the diameter of the Sun!

Let's hope! Given ISON encountered an X-flare or two while inbound, and its composition, there could also be a few larger ones streaking through earth's atmosphere during transition of the dust trail. ;)

Here's an interesting fact: Both ISON and LoveJoy reach perihelion on American Feast Days (Thanksgiving and Christmas respectively) - a harbinger? :)

Comet #LovejoyR1's perihelion is Christmas Day.

Interesting stuff....did you see anything official coming out of the ISON project as to the probability that ISON’s remains stay on it’s orbital path?

One grand disappointment for me.
Kind of fell for the original hype of it covering 1/2 the sky or more.
Once in a lifetime kind of thing.
