BINGO!!
The question, to my mind, is HOW do we get the Recall power in every state, at all levels...
And that should be the driving goal of EVERY Tea Party organization across the country right now - making THAT happen.
That should be what keeps us awake at night until we figure out how to do it.
Recall is a state thing Gizzygirl, no member of Congress can be recalled even in states that have it. That would require amending the US constitution. I can’t imagine the nightmare of constant elections if you could recall US Senators and Representatives.
Hale asks how to get it in state’s that don’t have it, state constitutional amendments of course.
It’s was a progressive era invention, I wouldn’t push to expand it to more states, it can just as easy be used against us, as in Wisconsin. But as long as it exists in some states we may as well use it.
Anyway I was sort of incorrect, the appointed pig will face the voters next year in a special election for the term ending in 2016. I don’t much like the election being so far off but it only nets the rats about 6 extra months in power as this pig would have been recalled next spring or so.
Thank you... six months too long but at least it’s only six months!

It's interesting, whenever we have some thread on the 17th amendment, the anti-17thers rant and rave that everyone who doesn't agree with them doesn't "understand" federalism, and that "our Republican was destroyed" due to the change in the federal/state relationship and the powers allocated to states, blah blah blah, plus the 17th amendment MUST be evil because it was passed during the "progressive era", and ANYTHING passed from 1913-1917 is automatically evil and HAS to be repealed.
Yet when it comes to threads about Congressmen/Senators we don't like who won't be up for re-election for a while, they argument the exact opposite points: 1) screw federalism and years of precedent showing it's blatantly unconstitutional -- let's use state recall laws on books to try and remove federal officials elected under a different system, 2) Who cares if Recall was a product of the progressive era and that's when recall laws were passed? We need MORE of 'em!! And we certainly DON'T need to amend the constitution to do so, we can recall whoever we don't like and send a message to Washington!! Woo hoo!!
Their arguments might hold water if they weren't constantly contradicting themselves. (ditto with the Levin fans saying the 17th is evil because modern day people changed the way the federal government operates and the original system that the founders set in place in 1789, and yet worshiping Levin's "Liberty amendments" that would do the same thing)

I think the argument would be that many here support the scrapping of the 17th, and having legislatures appoint senators again, but we have the system we have right now, so look for any way to use what’s in place against the rats and RINOS.
Except we DON'T have recall in place at the federal level right now.
If freepers genuinely think it's a good idea, why not push for a constitutional amendment to ALLOW for the recall of Congressmen and Senators, rather than push for a blatantly unconstitutional way of using state recall laws and tramping on the principles of federalism? Either they believe in federalism or they don't. They can't have it both ways.
