Florida's Republican chairman and the GOP county leaders represented by rehabbing Congressman Trey Radel called on him to resign immediately Monday, saying his recent cocaine-possession arrest and guilty plea were not tolerable.
These actions have violated the trust of those whom he was elected to represent and fall short of the standards for an elected official; especially a member of the United States Congress, the statements from the Lee and Collier county Republican executive committees said.
His actions clearly disqualify the pursuit of another term and if he should run for re-election, he would not enjoy our support, Radel's hometown Republicans wrote. We feel it is in the best interests of all involved that he resign immediately.
The two counties approved the statements in separate emergency meetings all with the support of Republican Party of Florida Chairman Lenny Curry.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS in contrast to the Democrats standing up FOR their Criminal Congressmen (Jesse Jackson Jr, Bill Clinton, etc..).
I *should add that I mean to say politicians not congressmen since I know that Bill Clinton was President (unfortunately) not Congressman.
I agree with Leadership on this one.
(will wonders never cease?!)
As much as the GOP p*sses me off, at least they get this right. The democrats' only concern would be the balance of political power. It'd be off to a one week rehab and then back as if nothing happened.
Byron Donalds for Congress
I don't like the precedent of him not quitting. What if Obama or one of his appointees we can't stand is caught doing illegal drugs? I'd rather we had the talking point that Radel was forced to step down, and such behavior won't be tolerated on either side of the aisle.
Let me say this one name: KENNEDY! Remember when he went to rehab for his problems...no one said Oh OH he needs to resign...I would be willing to bet my 401k that if they drug tested or breathalized all congressional members over 50% would be in need of serious rehab! THEY’RE ALL DRUNK whether it’s alcohol, drugs, or blatant power!
“Byron Donalds for Congress”
What are the rules for his replacement in Florida?
Quitting is a useless and foolish exercise; leave it to his constituents in the next election.
Democrats never quit and always rally around their own. They laugh when we enforce rules and standards for things like this and it is seen as a weakness and used as another weapon against us (see what criminals these conservatives are).
In normal times when the stakes are not nearly so high we can afford to push one of our own out; now is not the time.
I agree. ONLY because he’s a RINO anyway.
I think they’d call a special election.
The GOP is so ineffective what possible difference does it make? Wishy Washy Charlie Brown has more of a backbone than the bulk of the GOP. All this guy has to do is switch parties and he’ll be welcomed into the country club.
Republicans need to quit acting like superior persons. It makes no difference if he steps down, except to perpetuate the idea that Republicans have higher morals because our people step aside.
For Democrats it’s all about winning. Republicans need to take the same attitude, and come out and say “we don’t claim to be infallible”.
As a Democrat would say, “has this affected the job he has done? No.”
Besides that, I don't believe that druggies are capable of the degree of rational thought or making the correct decisions based on what's best for the nation if they've been willing to compromise their authority.
Bullcrap. How about zero’s dabbling in cocaine, any action on that. The guy is conservative, that’s why the GOPe is going after him. Is he stupid, he sure is, but he’s just one of vultures in Congress.
And he does, apparently.
