A Culture in Ruins

Lady Gaga reportedly spent $25 million on pop art to jazz up her new and apparently underwhelming album. In contrast, Miley Cyrus’ sexual twerking at the MTV video awards earned her more millions by exposing her rather unimpressive anatomy. Both make the once vulgar Madonna seem like June Cleaver, but at least raise an existential question: ~snip~

Meanwhile hip-hop artist Kanye West is promoting his own new music video. He seems to be having sex with his girlfriend Kim Kardashian while riding a motorcycle. If you did not know that Kanye West was the singer of the background music, by the quality of the lyrics and beat, you might think that a fourth grader was spewing rhymed obscenities, in the fashion that Gaga and Cyrus make up with obscenity...what they lack in musical, dance, and artistic talent. ~snip~ Our culture also seems shocked that you cannot mandate more healthcare for more people at less cost. It is outraged that those who use it rarely would not voluntarily rush to pay more for what others will use a lot. ~snip~ I saw the candidate Obama say in 2008 that a president cannot pick and choose which laws to enforce. And I saw him in 2013 do just that. But then did I really see that — and if I did why would I mention that I did? What suspicious urge would drive me to note a discrepancy? What thought crime am I guilty of?

Why would a culture that canonizes a Kanye West, Miley Cyrus, or Lady Gaga have the discrimination to determine whether their chief executive tells the truth or lies? Obamacare is a great program in a way that West, Cyrus, and Gaga are great artists, in a way that more iPads will mean more geniuses.

The answers to your questions, are that liberals changed the culture.

Liberals pushed for letting in tens of millions of Third World people. Liberals filed lawsuits in the courts to legalize more and more explicit pornography, which in turn caused TV and movies to become more and more explicit in the themes of such programming. Liberals in Hollywood cast aside such standards at the Hayes code. Liberals decided to push homosexuality in programming. Liberals decided that the Corporate media would show things on TV and movies which would be unimaginable 50 years ago.

Likewise, the liberals being firmly in control of the news media, decided that they would present a liberal world view in news programming.

Most Americans are not in favor of all of these changes to our culture. A determined minority, determined to use the courts and the pervasiveness of mass media, decided to use these techniques to push their liberal agenda.

Yep, good point.

The stereotype of a conservative college professor, in a tweed jacket, is long gone. Today’s college teachers are just about all liberal. Many are radical from what I hear.

Liberals have taken over many areas of our culture. And none of this happened because critical masses of the American people wanted to see these things happen.

And how many others.

Kims crotch is like a hazardous waste landfill site.

Nobody really knows what’s been dumped there.

Liberal Arts academia is all about tenure, rebellion and being advant garde!

My husband (the engineer) asked (rhetorically) just last night, "What would you do if you'd married a liberal arts major?" as he headed to the basement to check on the furnace to find out why my floors were so cold! LOLOLOL!

I quipped back something inane about "I'd be seeing more plays and ballets."

Seriously, every girl ought to have an engineer in her life. My sons are engineers too, and my daughters make do with calling on their father for those little fixes. Even the sons still call on him when the car won't start.

LOL! Just last night our furnace let out a huge scream!! My Engineer husband also went to check it out! I agree that every girl should have an engineer husband! Plus, they like to figure things out, and even though no man can quite figure out women, at least engineers enjoy the challenge!!!

Tell your husbands that. Trust me.

I spent yesterday morning in our (unfinished, PITA to get into) attic insulating the pipes to our upstairs bathroom. It's a project I've been meaning to get to for awhile; the pipes are in a likely location to freeze if it gets cold enough.

I crawled out, covered in insulation and likely smelling to high heaven, and Mrs WBill was standing there. She asked me what I was doing. I explained to her that it looks like it's going to be a cold one this year (17 degrees last night, which in the Southeast is like the next ice age) and explained what I did.

She gave me a kiss and said "I love you because you fix things before they break."

Made my whole day. :-)

X-Box One and Playstation released new gaming platforms over the past week or so. People lined up outside of stores in the cold to buy them. Both products sold millions of unit within hours.

For most of our younger generation, these video game platforms are their life. Many work only part-time jobs and then spend the entire rest of the day playing video games - usually in the basement of their parent's homes. I'm talking young adults who should be establishing their careers and starting a family.

The below photo of a satisfied shopper tells you all you need to know.

I’ve told him that many times, but probably not enough. We always drive older cars with 200,000 miles on the engine not uncommon, but I have to say that only ONCE in 55 years of marriage have any of our cars ever stopped in the middle of the road without any explanation. And that was when (one of the few times in my memory) we had a mechanic (other than my mechanical engineer husband) fix something and he left a tool in the engine!

I used to complain when he would take a Saturday morning to change the oil in the cars when hecould go to Jiffy Lube, but then he explained that he used the oil change as an opportunity to check everything else.

And I’ve had a pile of insulation sitting at the top of the stairs for several months, waiting for my husband to add it to the attic. LOL.
