Boeing has issued a formal request for proposals (RFP) to 15 locations around the United States that will bid for the work of building its forthcoming 777X jet, according to a source close to the discussions.
Washington state is one of the 15 sites under consideration. The others include both existing Boeing locations and new “greenfield” sites, the source said.
Boeing spokesman Doug Alder confirmed Saturday that the RFPs were sent out late Friday afternoon and into the evening.

How many potential sites are even possible in this country to build something like that? Are there even 15?
I think there may be about 15 sites in the whole country with the infrastructure and space to be a good place to build it without building up a whole new infrastructure around it.

A good choice would actually be Roswell, New Mexico. Its airport has the longest civilian runway in America, due to being a former Air Force base. It has a lot of aircraft workers for its size, due to a lot of aircraft maintenance going on there as well. Plenty of space available right at the airport or just outside.
This would be a good opportunity for Rick Perry to pipe up about Texas!
I was hoping they’d list them but I guess they aren’t going to. If they do take the 777X out of state I can’t see them not going to a right to work state except possibly to Long Beach, CA. They’ve got facilities and a work force though they’re union.

SC would have to come up with an unbelievable offer for Boeing to consider going there. It'd be like poking a hornet's nest with a stick..drive the IAM nuts..not worth the risk..

I was thinking the same thing. Hope that they are getting ready to announce their departure from the area. And that they are able to identify any of their “soon to be former employees” to give them a personal thanks and also, a good luck on the unemployment line.
Dallas has an old Air Force base right in town that the Air Force gave to the city and isn’t being used right now. The city is trying to sell it. That would also be a good choice.
They are winding down production of the C-17 in Long Beach. I am sure Boeing will gauge the union’s posture before making a commitment, but from a non union guy I know who works for their credit union, they’d vote for a plate of warmed over dog poop, if it were offered to them.
It would make sense..but again, with Texas so heavily invested in luring companies from blue states..choosing Texas, like SC..is waving a red flag in the union’s face..Boeing will still have to deal with the IAM...so it’s likely that they’ll want to let the union save some face...
Start with recently mothballed large airbases. Add industrial airports. Add active airbases that have excess land. Cecil Field, Fla. Carswell and the San Antonio fields in Texas. Alliance Airport in Texas. Old NAS Dallas. I don't know if the Winder, GA airport runway is long enough (5500 feet) but Joint Reserve Base Dobbins could handle the planes. And there is a lot of empty space at Plant 6 there. Kansas City airport is underutilized.
Independent of other issues such as scum unions...building in ANOTHER state gives Boeing two new Senators and a congress critter that theoretically advocate for them. Of course California has Boxer/Feinstein so that’s a non-starter.
