Seattles newly elected Socialist councilwoman accused aerospace and defense giant Boeing on Monday of economic terrorism and told Boeing machinists they should consider taking over the factories. The workers should take over the factories, and shut down Boeings profit-making machine, Kshama Sawant told a group of activists in the citys Westlake Park.
Sawants comments were made at a rally organized by machinists after they rejected a deal that would reduce pensions for union members in return for guaranteed jobs in Everett, Wash., building 777X Boeing airliners for eight years.
Now Boeing is considering taking those jobs elsewhere.
That will be nothing short of economic terrorism because its going to devastate the states economy, Sawant told the crowd.
If Boeing tries to move out, Sawant said, union workers should simply take over the Everett airplane-building factory.
She referred to this as democratic ownership. The only response we can have if Boeing executives do not agree to keep the plant here is for the machinists to say the machines are here, the workers are here, we will do the job, we dont need the executives. The executives dont do the work, the machinists do, she said.
She said that once workers take over the plant, they should start building things everyone can use.
We can re-tool the machines to produce mass transit like buses, instead of destructive, you know, war machines, she told KIRO-TV. By war machines, she apparently meant drones, KIRO reported.
Workers have to realize, they have more power than they think, Sawant said.
Sawant, who defeated a four-term Democratic incumbent last week, ran a campaign that took aim at capitalism and advocated for a $15 per hour minimum wage.

The rule of law (as WE know it) has gone out the window! What follows won’t be pretty.
What is that definition of ‘insanity’ again? Doing the same thing time after time, but expecting different results. Socialism has been tried many times, under many guises. Without fail, the results have been dismal. I therefore submit that socialists, are, by definition, insane.
It is numbing sometimes how completely stupid these people are.
Wow! Obviously the commi thinks that siezing a building will prevent a huge corporation from hiring someone else on the other side of the country. Idiot.
I’d like to see these new owners buy insurance for that factory and fund the maintainence and retooling costs.
lol
Tough. What she's advocating is nothing short of economic terrorism. However, what Boeing is doing is LEGAL.
If Boeing tries to move out, Sawant said, union workers should simply take over the Everett airplane-building factory.
By all means. Let THEM pay the taxes. And utilities. And permits. And fees. All the while producing nothing. Yeah, that'll improve the economy!
She referred to this as democratic ownership.
By "this," does she mean the workers owning the means of production? Karl Marx referred to it as something else.
The only response we can have if Boeing executives do not agree to keep the plant here is for the machinists to say the machines are here, the workers are here, we will do the job, we dont need the executives. The executives dont do the work, the machinists do,
She's right about that. The executives only PAY for everything. Like the raw materials used to build things at the factory the workers just took over.
Maybe the whole Boeing company will go the extra step and head to South Carolina.
Wonder how long she’ll be in there before recall. But then, it’s Seattle. SanFran North.
Do it. Do it. Do it.
“Sawant, who defeated a four-term Democratic incumbent last week, ran a campaign that took aim at capitalism and advocated for a $15 per hour minimum wage.”
Kshama, you commie pig, you are such a piker. Why not make it $150 per hour—that would show those corporate overlords who’s boss!
The story of the Twentieth Century Motor Company comes to mind, for some reason.
Boeing....lots of good places to move to with better weather and a friendly and appreciative govt and workforce.....
You'd save yourself some time and trouble if you just line up bulldozers
and scrape the Boeing plant into the Puget Sound.
She should visit the plant, I have. kinda hard to build buses or bicycles there.
Doesnt she qualify as a manager?
not so numbing how stupid “they” are but definitely incredible on how stupid the Seattle area electorate is!
How did all the stupid people migrate to Seattle? What attracted them? The rain, the cloudy days, what?
I will bet a steak dinner this fool has never even heard of Atlas Shrugged, much less read the book.
Atlas Shrugged....now non-fiction!
