Senate Adopts New Rules on Filibusters

A bitterly divided Senate voted Thursday to ease the confirmation process for most presidential nominees, a momentous and potentially risky step that limits the ability of Republicans to block President Barack Obama's choices for executive-branch and most judicial posts.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) engineered the rules change, over Republican objections, with a complicated parliamentary maneuver that ended up placing new curbs on the use of the filibuster—a move so controversial that it is often called the "nuclear option."

"The American people believe Congress is broken. The American people believe the Senate is broken…It's time to change the Senate before this institution becomes obsolete," Mr. Reid said.

The key vote was 52-48, with all but three Democrats voting for the change and all Republicans opposed. Democratic Sens. Carl Levin of Michigan, Mark Pryor of Arkansas and Joe Manchin of West Virginia broke from their party and voted against changing the rules.

Precedent has been set for a 2015 GOP Senate and beyond.

Nope. If when we elect a GOP majority, Reid on his last day in office with a RAT majority, will undo what he has just done and reinstate the traditional fillibuster and the 3/5ths requirement for cloture.

If Boehner and the rest of the GOP leadership in the House had any balls, they would tell Reid that effective immediately, the House will no longer vote on any bill that originates in the Senate, no matter how trivial or controversial.

If we ever get in power, I say we arbitrarily rule they are not lifetime appointments. Rules are out the window, so let’s roll with it.

“OK, here's the deal with my nuclear option thingy:

Because my buddy Barack's transformation of America isn't moving at the rate Mr. Soros, David Axlerod, Valerie Jarrett and his other handlers anticipated, we simply MUST pack the agencies and courts with more dedicated Marxists and libturds before BO's term is up. And although BO's agency heads will be removed should, allah forbid it, the pubbies take the WH in 2016, they will have had 3 years to bring in so many fellow libturds that a new administration will not be able to clean them all out.

But the courts – especially here in DC – are where the REAL action is! Dontcha just love that LIFETIME TENURE thing? We sure as hell do!

Oh...the finger?

Just my way of telling you Tea Party people that if you don't like it...suck on this!!

ROFLMAO!!!”

Most DISrespectfully, Harry “The Grinning Weasel” Reid

we won’t take over due to the left now who have fine tuned their fraud and scams in the voting process. I wish we had more R’s with balls but alas we do not and us thinking our votes are enough to combat the dead, illegals, more than voting once plus sacks of votes turning up in Dem counties when polls closed and then those Dem counties reporting last to see how many votes they need is reality

That is why we need a constitutional amendment to put term limits on Federal judges, including Supreme court justices. It is time to end the oligarchy running this country.

Return power to the states.

The House, yes; the Senate, I’m not so sure. There have been two special elections to the Senate recently and two left wing Democrats were elected, Markey in Massachusetts and Booker in New Jersey. Blue states are still blue.

"So when is the vote to end the two-term limits for Democratic Presidents?

Stop it. You're scaring me. ;-) "

Can't Bammy just issue an EO to accomplish this?

The Stupid Party would not, and didn’t vote for this kind of thing. They voted against using their power when they had it.

Thank you, John McCain and the Gang of 14.

Obamacare was mob rule. This is mob rule. It’s nothing more than one party clearing the way so they can do anything they want. How reckless, there can be only one logical outcome, shown by history.

Remember the arguments back then from the RINO types of how if the Republicans changed the rule, then someday the Democrats might be in power and use it against us. Hello, McFly...once the Dems are in power, they’re going to do it ANYWAY, as today proved. The Democrats are scorched-earth leftists and will destroy anything and everything that gets in the way of their socialist takeover.

McConnell was so mad at Cruz he got rid of the debt ceiling. It would be funny if it wasn’t so destructive.

No problem Reid. Obamacare will not be forgotten by the voters and when the Democrats are in the minority you will regret the day you pulled this stunt.

If we ever get in power, I say we arbitrarily rule they are not lifetime appointments.

Conservatives will never again get into power.

Not without tanks and a lot of bloodshed.

Understand history PLEASE.

There is NO CIVIL way to remove the ideology now in power and ruling us. None in all history. Power mad Collectivists do not leave power except by one means: force.

Get that through your heads.

Remember what Obama was caught saying just two weeks ago - that they are about to stack the courts. This is for all the marbles, intended to deprive us of any recourse or representation via civil means.

Sadly we do not have the stones our Patriarchs did - neither will we risk what they did to resist tyranny.

We are no longer the same people with the same deep devotions to God and liberty.

As such - liberty will evade us.
