My girlfriend was at the coffee and donuts all night act at the Bottom Line back in late 70s
he would literally invite the whole audience to a 24 hour place for breakfast at the end of his act

I remember seeing the video of Kaufman when he was wrestling. He grabbed the microphone and held up some shoes and toilet paper and yelled at the audience, “I know none of you have ever seen these before!” The man was funny, but he was crazy.
