U.S. doctors urge wider use of cholesterol drugs
The Washington Times ^ | November 13, 2013 | Marilynn Marchione - Associated Press

For decades, if you asked your doctor what your odds were of suffering a heart attack, the answer would turn on a number: your cholesterol level.

Now the nation’s first new heart disease prevention guidelines in a decade take a very different approach, focusing more broadly on risk and moving away from specific targets for cholesterol.

The guidance offers doctors a new formula for estimating risk that includes age, gender, race and factors such as whether someone smokes.

ChicagoLady, I read this post, and I read your post #4...Are you for or against Statin Drugs? It is hard to say from what I see as a post for and a post against.

Cholesterol is not a disease. The drug companies have made it a disease after it was found that cholesterol levels were easily determined in a doctor’s office blood test. Statin drugs are the biggest single money maker for Big Pharma, bar none.

It is true that statin drugs deplete CO-Q-10. This is not the primary reason that statin drugs are dangerous.

Our liver produces cholesterol. It has nothing to do with the food we eat. Why does the liver produce cholesterol? Because the body has to have cholesterol in order to live. Cholesterol is an important part of every cell. Cholesterol is dominant in brain cells. Statin drugs cause Alzheimer’s like symptoms by depleting cholesterol in the body.

It has been shown in studies that a cholesterol level of 250-300 is better than a cholesterol level of 150. Longevity is the bonus of higher cholesterol levels.

I agree with what you posted quoting Dr Mercola. Do you?

So, where are you in this, are you for statins or against them? Inquiring minds want to know.

Just to refresh the mind, view this recent Australian documentary on why taking these drugs is a very bad idea for most people:

I had an MI (LAD totally blocked) at age 47. Left me with about 35% ejection fraction and a lot of dead heart muscle.

No one has been more interested in treatment for coronary artery disease than moi. I still read Harvard Heart Review and the Cleveland Clinic Heart letter religiously and try to keep up with the state of the art.

I’ve taken high dosages of Lipitor for about 25 years (40 - 80 mg). I haven’t had any side effects that are noticeable. And by the way, I have no relatives working for “Big Pharma”.

I’m 87 years old now, am still functioning well and still retain a fair measure of mental acuity. I have 20/20 uncorrected vision in both eyes and drive my Lincoln with aplomb (at or above 80% traffic speed) in Atlanta traffic.

I consider me the best “trial” for statins for my situation, and I wouldn’t willingly part with the medicine on a bet.

Good luck with that

FDA Expands Advice on Statin Risks

www.fda.gov/forconsumers/consumerupdates/ucm293330.htm‎ Sep 24, 2013 - U.S. Department of Health and Human Services ... If you're one of the millions of Americans who take statins to prevent heart disease,

FDA is advising consumers and health care professionals that:

Routine monitoring of liver enzymes in the blood, once considered standard procedure for statin users, is no longer needed. Such monitoring has not been found to be effective in predicting or preventing the rare occurrences of serious liver injury associated with statin use.

Cognitive (brain-related) impairment, such as memory loss, forgetfulness and confusion, has been reported by some statin users.

People being treated with statins may have an increased risk of raised blood sugar levels and the development of Type 2 diabetes.

Some medications interact with lovastatin (brand names include Mevacor) and can increase the risk of muscle damage.

Statistics and drugs will never replace a real doctor. But, they will make corporations rich, and give the power of Doctors to bean counters. Perfect for the new government run Healthcare system.

Anybody ever have their Doctor ask what are the causes of your High Cholesterol? One known cause is blood borne fungal infections. It is the body’s natural defense to halt the spread of spores in the blood stream.

Is your “Doctor” a real Doctor, or is he a front for the drug companies? Did he test for fungus? Or did he prescribe by statistics? Your life may depend on the answer to that question.

I started 25 mg of lip one month ago and I got my blood work back today. My liver and kidneys were all normal. One month ago my total cholesterol was 225 and today’s results showed it to be 147. I spent all last summer eating right to try to get it down and after all the exercise and diet it only improved ten points. I’m impressed.

Mark Sircus is good. I am on his email list. I use DMSO a lot mixed with Epsom salts instead of magnesium chloride which I do have on hand.

All pure DMSO should be mixed with 25% pure or distilled water before applying. DMSO draws water from your tissues so a slight problem there.

After I posted to you, I read down the thread and saw your other posts. I take it you do not disagree with what I previously posted to you.

About magnesium etc...I know Dr Mark Sircus, and have talked with him on the phone. I read his first book on Magnesium a number of years ago...I think it was just out. We have acquired a great source for magnesium chloride, the only form of magnesium we should use, and we have been using transdermal magnesium for some years now. I buy magnesium chloride that comes from the Zechstein Sea in The Netherlands. I buy it in bulk and repackage it for my clients. I have magnesium chloride pellets and magnesium oil. Great stuff.

I am also a great believer in sodium bicarbonate, iodine, alpha lipoic acid,

We use diatomaceous earth. For all of the reasons you cite. We feed it to our horses...it is a natural wormer...it kills parasites. It is also useful on the garden as a pesticide. We use it in the kitchen, the pantry, and in areas where we store rice, grains, flour etc. Keeps the bugs out.

DE worms animals, and humans. it is Great Stuff. And it is not expensive...we buy a 50 lb bag of food grade DE for about $30.

I could go on. There other things that are absolutely beneficial...DMSO, MSM, Coloidal Silver, Sodium tetraborate decahydrate (20 Mule Team Borax). And I could go on...we help people, I am a chemist, a consultant, and a researcher into natural healing modalities.

I would encourage all to ask questions when they visit their doctor. Be informed, and perhaps we can begin to inform the doctor.

One month ago my total cholesterol was 225 and today’s results showed it to be 147.

I had similar results.

Over the years that I've taken statins, I've had regular tests of liver and kidney functions. So far they've been in a normal range.

Both my primary care MD and my cardiologist(s) have emphasized LDL reduction. I try to keep LDL below 70 mg/dl, which is recommended for those who have had heart attacks.
