Prohibition: Washington is moving to ban trans fats. The obvious question, of course, is what will it ban next? If it can outlaw trans fats, it can outlaw anything. Is taking away choice what we want government to do?
Trans fats, also called partially hydrogenated oils by many, have been in our foods for decades. These artificial fats help extend shelf life and in some cases simply make food taste better. Activists, though, tell us they're not healthy.
We're not going to debate the issue. The health concerns of trans fats are not the point.
But this is: Where does government get the raw power to ban trans fats, or any other substance that Americans voluntarily and peacefully ingest?
The list of food items that governments have banned or regulated to save Americans from themselves is growing.
New York, for instance, has targeted salt for termination and banned big sugary soft drinks before a court said no. San Francisco's Board of Supervisors has voted to run McDonald's Happy Meals out of town, while raw milk sellers are raided more than terrorist cells.

It's a big deal because of what they may do next.
Before the Volstead Act could be passed, the 18th Amendment had to be ratified, so that the government would have the power to ban alcohol.
When did the amendment pass giving the government the power to ban trans-fats?
Also, when did the amendments pass that gave the power to the federal government to ban drugs, impose CAFE standards, mandate the purchase of insurance policies, pay for abortions, prohibit the states from banning abortion...
Wow. I must have slept through dozens of Constitutional amendments!
I hear you and doubt with this administration they think they need an amendment.
Conservatives get accused of trying to control women’s uterus. Liberals want to control EVERYTHING else.
THAT'S a perfect name for the Redskins....The Washington Nannies.
IF the purpose is concern for the health of others, then regulate homosexuality for the same reasons.

LOL! That’d sure tick off a lot of fans:)
“When did the amendment pass giving the government the power to ban trans-fats?”
You can thank yet another faceless bureaucrat at a government alphabet agency. An agency formed so the Congress can shirk it’s responsibility to govern.
Odd that the left considers killing an unborn baby a legitimate choice, but eating something with trans-fats is not.
one musn’t take your eyes from the real prize
they aim to ban people
I love trans fats. My mommy died years ago. I don’t need a mommy. I am now seeking out trans fats. I hate obama and his fat butted wife. DON”T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!!
My grandparents used a huge glob of Crisco in EVERYTHING (up until it was reformulated in 2007, Crisco was essentially pure trans-fat) and they managed to live to 86 and 97 and neither died of a heart attack..
They extend shelf life. If you want your populace hungry, weak and compliant, you certainly don’t want anything on the shelves that might extend human life.
Check it out! Rips all nannies a new one!!!
