FDA moves toward abolishing trans fats
Politico ^ | Nov 7, 2013 | HELENA BOTTEMILLER EVICH

The FDA announced Thursday that there is no safe level of partially hydrogenated oils. The move — unusually bold for an agency that typically leaves additive safety to the private sector — is the first step in what could be a long road to removing trans fats, which are still widely used to improve the texture and shelf stability of processed foods like frosting, doughnuts and crackers.

There is no safe level of consumption of artificial trans fats, Hamburg stressed.

Consumer advocates are applauding the FDA’s actions.

“The left says we will be better off once we are all eating greul in a tenement apartment without heat poring over the 4-page DAILY WORKER and turning in our cousin for political thoughts in exchange for a bottle of shampoo.”

Watch it, Comrade! Some of us are going to take the lack of/rationing of a simple thing like shampoo VERY seriously!

*SMIRK* Very spot-on observation, though. ;)

Boy, the nation’s libertarians will start movements and ballot measures over this, just like they did when Obama signed federal law on tobacco in 2009, it will become the major libertarian issue nationally.

>>>I do not understand that nobody seems upset over this.

I’M upset over it. I’m under orders from my doctor to gain weight. Yet, in every supermarket there are rows and rows of “lose weight” food. I have yet to find a single product marked “gain weight.”

We’re catering to one group of people and ignoring the other as it is now.

I appreciate that people who want or need to lose weight deserve to be helped, but this latest action will put the rest of us in an impossible position weight wise.

"I do not understand that nobody seems upset over this."

I wasn't upset when they banned mercury from food either.

On the plus side, I've been avoiding McDonald's Chicken biscuits in the morning for several years. Every since I learned that they have 6-7 grams of Transfats. Sounds like in another year, I can start enjoying them again.

Sometimes Government does good things. This is one of them. Might they overreach and ban something based on junk science? Sure.

No government results in Somalia. Too much government results in the Soviet Union. The trick is to keep it in balance.

It bothered me greatly when McDonalds changed their grease! Their french fries are disgusting now...but if the folks didn’t have those tasty and fabulous fries before they changed the grease then they figure they’re pretty good just as they are.

This is what we are up against.....a population today that has no problem believing the lies...because....they have not “known” the truth so the lie sits ok with them.

Time to start stockpiling, and place your goodies in a cool place—like a root cellar.

(I live in Texas-—that would have to be a mighty deep root cellar—LOL!

Donuts...

High carb foods and breads. Pancakes qualify...

A lot of the so-called health bars are packed with carbs and will help you gain weight. Check the labels for high carb counts.

Hate to burst your bubble, but they won't ban bacon. China just bought Smithville foods the largest pork producer in the country. So they will ban everything else first.

Ok, so tranfat is not recommandable for a diet, but why make anyone a felon for using it?

Government thugs are out of control.

Coconut oil is supposed to help you lose weight, not gain it.
It’s a middle chain trigliceride. It boosts energy.

It wasn't that long ago that they were telling us that margarine was healthier than butter.

Same with thousands of other consumables. Coffee is good. Coffee is bad. Oat bran is good. Oat bran is bad. Chocolate is bad. Chocolate is good. Alcohol is bad. Alcohol is good.

It just goes on and on and will continue to do so until they run out of products or ingredients to demonize and then reverse themselves on.
