Former MSNBC host Dylan Ratigan recently got a rude awakening about Obamacare when he received a cancellation notice in the mail for his catastrophic insurance policy.
I bought a catastrophic health policy for $170/mo when I left MSNBC. Obamacare cancelled the policy. New rate $600/mo. Thnx Mr. President! Dylan Ratigan (@DylanRatigan) November 8, 2013
Interesting discussion...many seem to think paying a high deductible in exchange for low cost catastrophic should be outlawed? I disagree. Dylan Ratigan (@DylanRatigan) November 8, 2013
Serious question...do you guys think simple catastrophic coverage should be outlawed? If so, why? Dylan Ratigan (@DylanRatigan) November 8, 2013
I have been a long time advocate of catastrophic with a transparent mkt for routine. Struck me as interesting that that is illegal now. Dylan Ratigan (@DylanRatigan) November 8, 2013
We've known for years Obamacare would get rid of catastrophic insurance plans, Ratigan just wasn't paying close enough attention. The good news is, Ratigan isn't being a hypocrite on this issue and has been a critic of Obamacare since the beginning by pointing out the cronyism between the government and healthcare insurance companies. A flashback from 2009:
MSNBC's Dylan Ratigan Yells at Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL)

Øbamacare IS a catastrophic plan. One, it surely is a catastrophe, but two, the idea of catastrophic plans is only pay when the bills are overwhelming. Well, a $6k deductible fits that definition.
Dylan is paid far more than he needs now, and he has selfishly not paid his fair share for decades, now he has the gall to complain about paying more.

With high premiums and deductibles many thousands a year why bother. Everything would be out of pocket and if you had a medical disaster you can declare bankruptcy.
No wonder he’s a former host.
exactly
“And yet you were too stupid as a mindless demoCRAP Obot, so you voted for the commie muzlim pig-in-chief not only in 2008 but likely again in 2012. Serves you right, Dylan Ratigan you dumb ass demoCRAP!”
Karma is often cruel, but it is always just....
Haha... in a manner of speaking, it is. But, it has a whole lot of benefits and coverages that a "clean" catastrophic plan wouldn't have. And the governmment-created near monopolies in each state (US government regulates the benefits, forces pre-existing coverage of unknown future cost, private companies operate in each state with little competition) ensures high premiums.
Yeah and so what? He got what he deserved
Sorry you didn’t poke your head out of the Liberal Cocoon long enough to take in a fact or two...
Only a fool would believe anything that arrogant, lazy, lying pos from the Spite House says
My liberal aquaintances, who have been told by the TV and Social Media that anyone that dared to point out the TRUTH about what was coming was just a “Right-Wing Nutjob!”, are suddenly silent about this.
They are just now learning what it is going to cost them personally, but a few will NEVER admit they got played like chump little girls.
It would be too devastating to the sense of moral superiority they have for being “Liberal” and in “the Cool Kids Club!” as defined by the TV.
But...he can find comfort that his diaphragm is free!
And that right there is why most will dig their heals in and make excuses for Obamacare. (not blaming you BTW)
The worst thing for a "more intellectual than thou" liberal would be to admit that those "hick hayseed conservatives" were right and they were wrong.
chickens coming home to roost
Sorry, Mr. RATigan. You were warned.
