Black lawmakers block Emanuel's gun bill

SPRINGFIELD— — A contingent of black lawmakers blocked a vote on Mayor Rahm Emanuel's watered-down proposal to impose tougher penalties for illegal gun possession, the latest example of a rift between the mayor and the African-American community.

The reversal came after the stage appeared to be set Thursday to approve one of Emanuel's top legislative priorities of the fall session. Sponsoring Rep. Mike Zalewski, D-Riverside, held a news conference where he predicted the latest incarnation of the bill involving mandatory minimum prison sentences would pass.

As the Illinois House came to order, the Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. gave the morning invocation and lawmakers dealt with a few routine matters. When the gun bill came up, Rep. Ken Dunkin, leader of the House Black Caucus, had used a surprise procedural maneuver requesting information on how much the measure would cost taxpayers.

They’ll let it through once Emanuel amends it to impose those fines only on non-black offenders.

Last year, black Democrats in Illinois blocked the state’s approval of sodomy.

That didn’t last... Just last week the Illinois legislature gave a thumbs up to homosexuality.

No, it didn't meet muster as a "good gun control law." (which is an oxymoron in my book).

You see, it sounds like the law was going to impose tougher penalties on criminals. What!? I know, right? Why would libs support something like that? It impacts their babies - all those criminals they love to coddle. If you want to pass "real gun control" (at least in libs' eyes) it must somehow do one or more of the following: make criminals out of otherwise law abiding citizens; remove more legal firearms from private hands; set precedent for further restricting and eroding our rights. A really good "gun law" would do all three.

Unfortunately, while the above was written with a snarky tone it is not satire. That is actually how liberals think and gauge "gun control" laws. Gun control is just a convenient label. Their laws and proposals have absolutely nothing to do with actually reducing violence. They have everything to do with power and control over law abiding citizens. Gun control is the excuse, the motive is far older and genuinely evil.

Whenever you have liberal vs liberal one thing you can count on, whatever the outcome it will defy good common sense.

What a great method to drive away all the productive, law-abiding people.

Coming soon, the Detroit-ization of Chicago.

Why would the average black person in Chicago, a person probably about 1000 times more likely to be negatively affected by gun violence than the average white person in Chicago, object to cracking down on gun violence and putting armed drug dealers in prison? They obviously wouldn’t. The only ones that would benefit from this bill are the armed drug dealers. This can mean only one thing. The drug kingpins in Chicago have bought and paid for the black aldermen who oppose this bill.

Exactly. Their “control” laws are aimed at disarming White, Heterosexual Christains, not obama’s “civilian defense force that just as big and just as well funded as the military”.
