On ESPNs Around the Horn, frequent guest Kevin Blackistone of the Dallas Morning News said that football games should not include the singing of the national anthem beforehand, as that added to the military symbolism. He actually called the Star-Spangled Banner a war anthem.
Blackistone was addressing controversy over Northwestern Universitys American flag-themed football uniforms, designed to raise money for the Wounded Warriors Project. In a show segment titled Buy or Sell, Blackistone said that he would sell the uniforms:

This my be worthy of a ZOT! MY beeber meter got stuned and went critical. Try going to your home country of China if you don’t like the US.
Not much surprises me anymore as I accept the plethora of uneducated ignorant people all around us because our school system has been transformed into a liberal propaganda machine--
Yet, Dirty, that a dumb schmuck like you could actually put into words the height of stupidity you have achieved--
Well, it just leaves me speechless... except to say 'Kiss my shiny metal ass!"
I am getting really, really tired of liar motormouth commies.
***
Me, too.
How many clowns go to a parade to honor a sports team but they wouldn’t cross the street to see a veterans’ Day parade?
Black is stone? Is that similar to “Crack is whack”?
Well said. Just what "shiny metal asses" were created for.
I gave up organized sports years ago... I just can’t take the stupidity and communism and gangster thugs.
Same here. the older I get, the less it matters. The NFL will be flag football within 10 years any way. Then all those empty billion dollar stadiums will look even sillier.
I must be getting old. All the stale Leftist arguments I remember from the 1970’s are back in the news again.
Like the thread above about the need for a One Child Policy.
He’s right in one way. It is about war. But it’s about a defensive stand in a war to preserve liberty and freedom against an agressor English government that wanted to keep us their subservient colony.
Long may the Star Spangled banner yet wave, oer the home of the free and the brave.
I’ve always felt that he looks like a Muppet and should be regarded just as seriously.
This is all his way of getting publicity and “street cred” with his straight brothers.
The Star Spangled War Anthem. I like it. I have no problem whatsoever with it as our National Anthem, too. It is a reminder that, in this short life, for general tranquility to be secured and to prevail, certain forces of evil must be held at bay with physical force, even at times to the point of bloodshed.
Among those forces of evil are those without a moral compass, who treat the rule of law as optional, the Ten Commandments as mere ramblings from ancient sheep herders, the civil moral code as relative to shifting individual circumstance, and the Constitution as a living, breathing roll of cheap toilet paper. All of these must be held at bay, even by force if necessary.
Powers who undermine general civility by effectively promoting (or ignoring) theft, murder, adultery, covetousness, slander, falsehood, and lack of respect for proper authority ought to be publicly pointed out, mocked, banished, incarcerated, and if need be, lethally terminated. If the Star Spangled War Anthem may serve as a rallying cry to that effect, let it ring out clearly and often, whether on the streets, in schools, and in businesses of every kind.
A good many public school teachers and administrators, inasmuch as they have abused their office by undermining parental authority, ought to be stripped of their pompous degrees of learning and forced to hear the Star Spangled War Anthem (and the Ten Commandments) at least 3 times a day. We should merely tolerate them as wards.
A good many politicians, inasmuch as they enrich and empower themselves at the expense of the citizenry, ought to be met with lawful force in both word and deed so that they, too, may be summarily dismissed from their self-indulgence by a righteous, God-fearing people who sing the Star Spangled War Anthem without apology. We should forthrightly prosecute them as criminals.
A good many media entities, inasmuch as they promote lies and slander, ought to have their monkey business unplugged and held up to scorn and ridicule, with the Star Spangled War Anthem inserted at the beginning, middle, and end of each broadcast event, sounding out each time a USA-hater opens the mouth to spout forth degeneracy, mediocrity, death culture, and taxation without representation. We should humor them as imbeciles.
In short, if the Star Spangled War Anthem is an instrument to inspire the slightest action against the arrogance of those who hate freedom and liberty (like this ESPN analyst punk), then so be it. Let it be sung with gusto into their fearful, feckless ears. Let it continue to serve as a rallying tune for those who love our country and its freedoms, and a warning to the multitudinous domestic enemies whose lies, chaos, and incessant whining will never overcome what is good, right, and true.
“....football thuggery, baseball druggies, nba lowdowns, and soccer mania-I will not watch any of it!”
If you & your kid take baseball & gloves into the backyard & “toss the pill” for an hour or so, you’ve accomplished something. If you sit in front of the TV & watch overpaid professionals run bases, what does that advantage you?
If you & the kid throw a football back & forth & run & catch passes, you’ve gotten some exercise. If you watch behemoth gladiators on the gridiron for three hours, where’s the benefit?
If you stand at attention as the national anthem is played, or even better, sing it, you have bettered yourself. Just my humble opinion.
Boycott ESPN - and their advertisers too.
Mostly a bunch of left-wing rug-wearing nutcases.
Does anybody really want Richie Incognito coverage 24/7?
I’m going to start taking note of who advertises with them and not buy those products - anybody with me?
Hated the way they were Paterno’s judge jury and literally his executioner.
And REALLY can’t stand that Colin Coward guy.
Plenty of other non-ESPN places to get our sports fixes. My top recommendation: turn off the TV, get out of the house, ad go watch your local high school sports team. You will love it!
Maybe he would prefer the “Internationale.”
The anthem reflects the desperate hope that the one free nation on the planet would survive the assault of a powerful and ruthless military force. It is written by a prisoner of said enemy.
It’s a song of hope, preserverance, and love of country.
“Please stand, extend your right arm, and join us for the singing of our national anthem, “Hmmm hmmm hmmm... Barack Hussein Obama.” Or everyone will join hands and sing the national anthem of communism and atheism, Imagine.
