Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) will meet with President Obama at the White House Thursday afternoon to plot strategy for passing comprehensive immigration reform.
McCain said Obama requested the meeting, which comes at a time political momentum for immigration reform is flagging.
McCain and Obama need to shore up the support of wavering allies such as Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who has backed off the push to overhaul the nation's immigration laws in a 1,200-page comprehensive bill.
Rubio has said the Senate should not try to merge its comprehensive bill with a piecemeal measure coming out of the House.
McCain's ally, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), has predicted there will be more Republican support for immigration reform after the filing deadlines for Republican primaries in 2014.
Graham, who is facing his own primary threat in South Carolina, said he will not attend Thursday's meeting between McCain and Obama. A White House official confirmed the president's meeting with McCain would occur at 3:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, but stressed the two would "discuss a broad range of issues" not just immigration.
Dumber and Dumbest. This should work out well.
That room will have difficulty reaching a room temperature IQ combined.
He doesn't have to.
huddle or cuddle??
No doubt about it. He'd likely spend months threatening to do so every time an important bill is up for a vote (important for the dems) and in the end switch anyways.
THAT's exactly what Tea Party republicans should do - threaten to switch to Independent.
You KNOW money is changing hands.
Mc has truly gone over to the dark side.
Wealthy “republicans” are pushing hard for this. I think instead of a total civil war (which the Dem’s want) we should simply oppose every tax cut, loophole or give away to the rich and to corporations. That would be far more devastating in thier sight. Not that we really are against them. Just that we need to get into the bargaining process. That would shock them more than anaything else. But, still Lindsey and McCain have to go.
For MeCain, old habits are hard to break!
A Uniparty strategy meeting. Afterwards McCain will update other party members
Obama (U-IL)
McCain (U-AZ)
McConnell (U-KY)
Boehner (U-OH)
Graham (U-SC)
etc.
2 incompetent idiots trying to solve a problem. Who is kidding who?
McCain needs to get out in the sun more.
McCain's ally, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), has predicted there will be more Republican support for immigration reform after the filing deadlines for Republican primaries in 2014.
Perhaps Lee Bright might have a press release alerting the voters of South Carolina to this travesty of Grahamnesty lurking behind a primary .....
John McCain falling for Obama’s attempt to take everyone’s attention off of Obamacare.
Two old buddies huddling together since the summer of 2008.
Reach Around Time at the Spite House.
Obamacare is the only significant issue facing the country for 2014. Any other issue is a distraction from the goal of neutering Obama by taking control of both houses of the legislature.
Conservatives should refuse to discuss on any other issue. They should just stay home or vote present on any social issue that will be used to divide Republicans. The house should refuse to vote on immigration until after the election.
For the last 40 years, the Party of Government (both Democrat wing and Republican wing) has done all it can to replace American voters with Mexicans.
'John, you know I'm with you in spirit. I just can't go because of those idiot conservative back home.'
