Ken Cuccinelli is a friend and I am sorry he lost.
In 2009, the Republican National Committee spent $9 million to win Virginia by a big margin. For the past 48 hours, the party bosses have been screaming to everyone about how much money they poured in this time in Virginia. Weve had a few diarists at RedState document it and suck it up as gospel truth that the RNC did all it could this time.
The RNC spent $9 million in 2009 to win and spent $3 million this time, pulling money out of Virginia, to lose by a hair. The RNC truly screwed up in Virginia this time and no amount of spinning can distract from that screw up. It was Election Day itself when someone finally noticed the 3rd party candidate, Sarvis, had been funded by a major Obama donor. Election Day the GOP finally notices this!
Cuccinelli had all the insiders aligned against him. He was the outsider. The gays hated him, the Chamber of Commerce hated him, the kid killers hated him, the GOP establishment hated him all the insiders hated Cuccinelli and his campaign made the strategic blunder to try to work their way inside instead of dancing with the folks who got him to the dance. The campaign manager was fired too late and the campaign fell behind by double digits. Compounding that, the Democrats massively outspent him, Governor McDonnell is involved in a scandal, and the GOP voted to raise taxes with Cuccinelli struggling to distance himself from both.

McAwful will deliver Virginia to Hillary in 2016 ... and earn himself a spot in the Clinton cabinet. The Republican establishment knows this.
Evidently they are fine with it.
For a number of years I have been stating that the true boundaries of the northeast is the region east of Interstate 81 and north of Virginia's Interstate 64. It's reasonably accurate.
Maelstrom: “...constitutional conservatives need to accept that it is OUR responsibility to fund OUR candidates...”
You’re absolutely right. Many have posted that they will not donate to the RNC again until it stops trying to beat conservatives. Yet, many demonize the RNC for not pouring more money into these races. We can’t rightly expect them to fund our candidates if we refuse to give the RNC our money.
I’m not saying we should pour money into the RNC, but we are going to have to do something more to win these sorts of races. If that means donating money directly to the candidates, then donate. If it means walking door to door, start walking.
Frankly, I’m guilty of not doing much to get conservatives elected. Part of that is because I’m lucky enough to live in a very conservative state. However, how long can conservative states like mine stand against the federal behemoth if we don’t start pushing back in the blue states? They’ll simply outvote us in D.C.
Many of these races are still winnable, but we have to increase our turnout. Even if Democrats make up 60% of voters, the other 40% can still win if we can get more of us to the polls, but that’s going to take time and money.
“The GOP/RNC Establishment is dead to me.”
They’re dead to everyone. Cause of death: Suicide. Seriously, I can’t believe the GOP-e doesn’t realize that strategically, they are playing into the hands of a marxist-democrat party that wishes them exterminated politically.
There are a few counties around DC where TM won. The rest of the state voted Repub. KC was painted as an extremist. If he flips, or the GOP flips 2% of the women vote they win Va again. Its not that hard
Who cares if the gop wins another election perior - national or not? I certainly don’t!
I will vote conservative, and given only a choice between RINO and dem, I will vote dem every time.
The gop must die! The more sooner the more better.
Yeah the Gop leadership just plays the game. The are as liberal as the dems at the top. Its a one party system
Rove and Romney STOLE more than 100 million dollars
of donations on the night of the election.
The workers could not afford to even fly home
when Romney abruptly gave up and the money “disappeared”.
Now, a fraction of what they stole
could have changed everything.
We need some kind of kickstarter for conservatives or some kind of million conservative pac where we can leverage the strength in our national numbers to raise millions in small donations. Obama and the DNC are doing a lot of fundraising with very small donations of $5.00 of less the key though is they are targeting literally millions of supporters.
You are absolutely right. None of us can feel safe in the comfort of red states because the left if they can’t win at the state level will transform your state using the federal whip. That is why they push things like ENDA. They want to force states like Texas, Oklahoma and others to submit to their liberal social policy or else. That is why they want Obamacare because they know they will never be able to implement such schemes in red states. They are authoritarians and they have no end to their hunger for power and will not be happy till they have consumed the entire world.
There is no refuge. There is no easy road to be had. We need to act as partners as a part of a unified cause that operates beyond our state lines.
Remember Virginia!
Never forget the betrayal.
Rovio and crew strike again....he loves the Clintos and all their minions
Cuch lost by 1.5%. The RNC didn't support him.
That's the simple reality.
You are ignoring how close this race was....with all of the power of the dims and nothing from the Gopelite Cuccinelli had an up hill battle from the get go.
Too bad that they didn’t point out that the Libertarian candidate was really an O admin backed lefty. Too bad Ken didn’t hammer Ocare the whole time
The party insiders are far more scared of letting conservatives have any pull in the party than they are about relegating themselves to permanent minority status.
I'm not sure that's really the right approach. That requires some kind of organization to accept the money and parcel it out.
I think what we really need is some organization to tell us who the "good guys" are, so we can make individual contributions to them. Ordinarily I don't even hear about candidates in other states, and if I do hear about them, I have no idea whether they're really "good guys." I'm willing to contribute money directly to candidates I can trust, but I have no way of finding out who they are.
“Youre absolutely right. Many have posted that they will not donate to the RNC again until it stops trying to beat conservatives. Yet, many demonize the RNC for not pouring more money into these races. We cant rightly expect them to fund our candidates if we refuse to give the RNC our money.”
Hold on, are you suggesting that when you give money to the RNC you are confident they are spending that money where YOU want it spent? Is that what you are saying here?
In my world, if I give any money to the RNC, I have NO way of knowing where they choose to spend that money.
Screw the RNC. Karl Rove is a freakin snake and all that surround him. I detest those running the RNC, btw, where has Reince (sp) been lately? Do you hear him/see him fighting FOR anything?
Also, even though that skunk McAwful squeaked out a win, the state offices went red, so good luck McAwful, you will do the dems proud, if you stay out of jail!
It hasn't. GOP now holds a 2/3 majority in the VA House. This was strictly Cuccinelli - the party insiders withheld money and support from him, and some even (tacitly or worse) endorsed McAwful. The fake "Libertarian" also had little effect on downticket races.
The RNC didn’t screw up, they threw Cuccinelli under the bus, to appease their masters within the DNC, and protect their financial interests.
Yes that is a key part of the problem and I’m not really interested in managing money etc like a pack. What I had in mind was more of what you alluded to a way to really connect conservatives with other conservatives and allow them to rally funds to conservative candidates leveraging numbers. How did Scott Brown raise 12 million in a couple weeks from small donations? Every conservative/GOP was reaching out and promoting him one their email lists on their websites etc. We need a way for replicating that without having to rely on separate orgs to send out emails etc. We need a way of raising awareness in a concerted way among committed conservatives.
