ounger, healthier Americans needed to make Obamacare financially viable are not signing up in sufficient numbers. Most enrollees have been people over 50, many with pre-existing medical conditions.
The skew toward the older crowd raises concerns that there will not be enough payments from young people to offset the cost of providing coverage for the older ailing population, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The early numbers, while statistically too small to draw conclusions, raise concerns about the practicality of the insurance marketplaces.
"We need a broad range of people to make this work, and we're not seeing that right now," Heather Thiltgen of Medical Mutual, one of Ohio largest insurers told the Journal. "We're seeing the population skewing older."
The target enrollee is someone around 40 years if age.
If the drift continues, a more expensive cohort of customers, older and less healthy, would drive up costs for everyone. The federal government had committed to reimburse insurers if they underestimated costs.

That’s OK, we have a printing press!
The answer is of course anyone who didn't sleep through HS econ class.
The Marx/Obama/Alinsky model was supposed to be simple. The only variable was reality.
Young people weren’t going to hang out for hours trying to get through the web-site. People looking for freebies and people with preexisting conditions would take the time. They will wait until the process is easier or the fines get unaffordable to sign up.
They couldn’t see this coming?
The media couldn’t see this coming?
Placing a burden on the young this large, gets no media coverage? The same young that can’t get jobs out of college. The same young with thousands in student load debt.
They have to come up with thousands more to pay the medical bills of older persons, many of which were irresponsible.
All you old folks gonna have to empty out your 401k’s, IRA’s and pension plans to pay for your healthcare...cause your rates are going UP. The young don’t want to pay for your premium.
This AM I had an email from Navy buddy that the VA is no longer accepting Medicare and has asked VA patients to get Obamacare. He was asking if others have gotten the same treatment.
Prescient TS PRESCIENT......
I mean, DUHHHHHHHHHH! What a total f#cking IDIOT.
I’m going to predict the future so mark my words:
The penalty is going to be raised to “bully” people into enrolling in the system.
Called a death spiral.
Obamacare needed to have paid for 100% of the premiums for one or two years for everyone to establish the pools, then the companies would know how to set prices and those who dont get a great deal would have signed up keeping the price reasonable.
But then the CBO couldnt even fudge those #s to look good.
Not for people who don't sign up. The healthy people should boycott this turd (imo).
Dream on. When they realize that they’re going to get royally screwed without a kiss if they apply for Obamacare, that will be the end of Obamacare.
Good analysis, my FRiend.
In their model, the dependent variable is, of course, magic (the reciprocal of reality), and they never see it.
How to fix model?
They only know to take away rights and add repression (which makes things worse, but they don't see that either)
.
How can they sign up (as if they’d want to) when the site is constantly down and/or not working when it’s up?
> but Obama said that it won’t cost more than a cell phone bill. That is also a bald-faced lie. I got a cancellation letter and the lowest cost plan I can find is 70% more than what my canceled policy was.
Obama IS a walking lie in every sense of the word from beginning to end; everything from his origins, to his father, and to every single thing he says and does.
The other big wrench in this whole concept is that with the number of jobs that have been killed off over the last 4 years the unemployment rate among their target audience is sky-high. It isn’t going to happen. Many of the young, like their middle-aged, laid off counterparts have given up looking and/or are scraping along.
Someone who thought that command economies actually work.
