The 'you can keep your doctor' lie starting to hit Medicare recipients
American Thinker ^ | Nov 4, 2013 | Thomas Lifson

The firestorm over President Obama's blanket false assurances on Obamacare is only going to intensify, as more groups discover they have lost either their coverage or their doctor thanks to the health insurance changes imposed on the country without a single Republican vote. One of the biggest, yet so far almost completely ignored, changes is the looting of Medicare to pay for Obamacare. Now, it is starting to hit home. Evan Gahr of the New York Daily News recounts a story that will soon become very common among America's senior citizens:

Obamacare has a new message to seniors: Take two aspirins and find yourself a new doctor in the morning.

Just ask 84-year-old Dorothy Gaillard, a retired book binder and a patient of my father, an Upper East Side primary care physician, for more than two decades.

Gaillard could easily find a doctor near her Queens home, but she dutifully makes a 45-minute schlep to my father's office for uniquely personal care. He takes her blood pressure himself and even schedules her next appointment, tasks that most doctors shunt off to assistants.

Last Saturday, Gaillard called my father, aghast about a letter she had just received from the Medicare Advantage program of UnitedHealthcare.

Gaillard, one of close to 900,000 aged New Yorkers covered by Medicare Advantage, was informed that my father's contract was being terminated effective Jan. 1; she would need to find another doctor.

"I couldn't believe it," she recalled. "Something ain't right."

That something is Obamacare. Due to reductions in funding under the law, the Medicare Advantage programs, in which Medicare provides money for private insurers to cover seniors, have quietly started to cancel the contracts of providers to save money.

As bad as I feel for her, I am interested in who she, and others in her predicament, voted for.

And, I have a big ‘told ya so’ just building at the back of my throat.

But how nice for those that voted for BOCare to give up their benefits so that others who have never paid in the system get the care and doctors that THEY used to have.

I heard this morning that a ‘crat has introduced a bill making it illegal for doctors to refuse medicare/medicaid patients.

Slavery.

I’m one of those “5%’ers” that had my insurance policy cancelled. I’ve been watching the Rats down playing the impact of these cancellations by saying they are “illegal policies”, “substandard policies”, and “the individual market is only 5% of the population”. Now we see seniors will be impacted and after 2014 when the employer mandate kicks in all those who think it doesn’t matter because it doesn’t affect them will find their policies fundamentally changed, if their employer still offers healthcare insurance.

Thank you for posting this. I was just about to. Too little has been made public about the effect that Obamacare is having on Medicare and Medicare Advantage subscribers.

For instance, United Healthcare which has long sold Advantage plans, advertises that they have “no networks; choose any doctor who accepts Medicare”, yet their guidelines for 2014 decree that all subscribers MUST use doctors from their network. But there is no published network, even though we are supposed to decide this month whether to keep UH, or choose another plan.

I noted that in the offering for 2014 that my subscription price remains the same, but co-pays, out of pocket, and other fees have all risen. Furthermore, there are no providers at all in about 5 counties in my state, as well as in several areas in other parts of the country. What about accidents when away from home?

All in all, 2014 doesn’t seem too bad, but what about 2015? Is is “Katy bar the door”?

To the young idiots that vote Democrat for no reason other than slick marketing, they’ll come around when they are hit with the high costs and regulatory requirements of ObamaCare. For the elderly that thought Obama was going to save their precious Medicare. Well, suckers! It was said EXACTLY what ObamaCare would do to Medicare

One of my neighbor's who doesn't pay much attention to politics said that he thought this was a program to make sure uninsured people purchased insurance coverage. He said it also provided for prior existing conditions for those that could not be insured.

He was never told that middle class people who are insured through their employer would be part of the program.
I asked him if he voted for Obama, and he said he never votes because it doesn't make any difference anyway.

Welcome to Soylent Green.

The government has a financial stake in how long our current lifespan lasts. Once we quit working, we become a huge liability for government. Thus, they will have a vested interest in denying life-saving health care for seniors. It is also the same reason why they won't ban tobacco. The perfect citizen is the one who pays taxes from age 18 thru age 65, and then promptly dies.

Here in Kentucky, some RAT group is running ads to help Allison Grimes. It accuses Republicans of “Cutting Medicare and Social Security”. The only cut to medicare is the $760 billion looted by Obamacare. The only cut to Social Security is the money stolen by changing the inflation index to not include things like food and fuel, thereby lowering the cost of living increase. Both of these cuts are courtesy of the rats. (Hint to republican candidates: you might want to mention this in your campaigns).

Don't count on it. Over the next twelve months, the American people will learn that all this is the Republicans' fault.

To some degree I'm willing to give the older generation s pass. A good percentage don't have access to the internet or sources of information other than the Obama-worshiping media. My aunt, age 82, thought Obamacare wad going to be wonderful until she and I talked. She has no computer, but to her credit, she went to her local library and, with the help of a librarian, she found information to support what I had told her about Obamacare. She knew then that Obama and his accomplices were lying.

But many seniors don't have the resources my aunt has. And that is what Obama and his henchmen are counting on. The ones I have no sympathy for are those who should know better, but are too lazy to find out for themselves.

No, they will still vote (D) straight ticket, until they die and even thereafter.

They are being told it’s all the fault of the Republicans, and the only way to ‘fix’ this disaster is to vote for more (D) to Congress................
