Peggy Noonan on ABC: Tea Party Aims to ‘Topple’ GOP, Not Take it Over
mediaite.com ^ | November 03, 2013 | Evan McMurry

On Sunday’s This Week With George Stephanopoulos, Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan argued that the tea party was a new fixture in American politics, a movement that doesn’t want to usurp a major political party but eliminate it.

The comment came during a discussion of electoral forces going into the 2014 midterms, with former Bush consultant Matthew Dowd arguing that demographics were shifting in the Democratic Party’s favor.

“Candidates matter,” ABC News’ Jonathan Karl responded. “They’ve nominated far-right candidates.”

“Lesson for the tea party?” Stephanopoulos asked.

“A lot of people may be cruisin’ for a brusin’,” Noonan replied. “Big difference for the tea party now and say ’64 and Goldwater and ’76 and Reagan—’64 and ’76, Goldwater and Reagan both wanted to seize and control and win over the Republican Party. The tea party now shows signs of not wanting to win it, but of wanting to topple it over, wanting to do away with it. That is something new in our politics. It’s going to get fought out over the next few years.”

Peggy, Peggy, Peggy.... It’s like this, we don’t want to get hung by liberal Republicans OR democrats and we want to save American values for our children and grandchildren to enjoy. You know, the American value called “liberty”, you might remember it from elementary school.

If that means “toppling” the Republican party than that’s what it means and they better be on notice.

Considering the Democratic party is now the socialist/marxist party made up of 60’s radicals and the GOP is what I would call the same as the Kennedy Democrats in the 60’s, the GOP needs a MAJOR transformation.

Goldwater and Reagan both wanted to seize and control and win over the Republican Party. The tea party now shows signs of not wanting to win it, but of wanting to topple it over, wanting to do away with it. That is something new in our politics. It’s going to get fought out over the next few years.”

What a cheap semantical trick. Peggy, do you think you can get away with telling us that the tea party "shows signs"? What signs?

People like you opposed Barry Goldwater and opposed Ronald Reagan, for the same reasons, and by the same despicable means.

It ain't libel or slander if it's true, so Peggy, what signs? If it's true, prove it. Otherwise, take your pious clucking and you are self-righteous slanders somewhere else.

Jeeze, Peg! First the Republican GOPe wants the Tea Party to fall in line, then it complains that they want to upset the apple cart. There IS problem here: it’s the GOPe’s failure oppose Barak Obama and the Dems. Focus Peggy!

Even worse - the Republican House would have rubber stamped every nitwit liberal item on Romney’s left-wing agenda, and the fight would have gone out of the people on our side.”

You pretty much described both Bush presidencies.

Where there is a vacuum of basic common sense, the Tea Party will appear to provide it.

Hey peg... we would burn you at the stake if we thought it would help. This was sarcasm peg. Now I am just showing you how ignorant and wrong about us that you are. We cross party lines... we are about low taxes and smaller government and we will do battle with anyone that wants the opposite and stands in defense of what we have today... and that means progressive paid liars like yourself peg... and we will never forget the way you drooled over obama in print for 3 years. Now crawl back into the primordial slime whence you came wench!

Peggy, RINOs like you need to join the Democratic Party and try to moderate them. It is they who are the radical party.

My wife used to ask, “What’s wrong with her eyes? Do the studio lights bother her?”

Peggy’s a cheerleader all right, for the Washington Establishmentarians polo team. They’ve had their day, time for them to go away, IMO.

Getting the GOP to change is like moving an oversize piece of furniture...

If you can’t lift it, you push it.

If it refuses to move, you push harder.

The harder you have to push, the more likely it is to topple.

When that happens, you just put the splintered remains in the trash, and find a new piece of furniture that suits you better than the old one ever did.

Some people would argue her to be a RINO -- and I would be one of them -- but she does have a clearheaded view of what is happening here.

We do not want to 'reform' the GOP. The Democrats already did that, and the brand is poisoned.

We want to 'remove' the GOP, completely, and replace it with an alternative to the current Tweedledum and Tweedledee political parties.

Peggy wrote a great speech for Reagan after the Challenger disaster. That’s been the high point of her career, and she’s been milking it ever since..
