Howdy everyone!!

Woo hoo!!

As I wrote to a few of you this morning, I made my escape from the hospital last night. LOL! Seriously, I just couldn’t stand being cooped up any longer so went home “for dinner” but didn’t go back. Called them at 10:00 PM (after the curfew) and told them I wanted to be discharged immediately. ‘Twas fine by them (seeing as how I broke the rules).

Called again this morning to confirm and they told me to come pick up my things and settle the bill.

Woo hoo! I’m hoooome!

Only had six more therapy sessions scheduled anyway. Didn’t see any need to be cooped up in the hospital for nearly another week for that. And I’m paying $148.00 per day co-pay for that (including weekend days). I think I can contract for home therapy for that.

Got to where I couldn’t stand eating their bland hospital food anymore. No salt, no pepper, no fat. No taste, but bad taste. Hadn’t eaten anything but ice cream, jello and milk for two days and had a terrible tummy ache and a hard knot in my belly. All that went away as soon as I got home and sent Chris out for an order of the most harmful food possible, Chinese. Ate my fill of won ton soup and pork fried rice. Mmmm... mmmm good. And that’s when I made the final decision to just stay home.

It’s so great to be home.

Thank God Almighty!

Free at last!

Sitting here all morning with tears of joy and gratitude streaming down my face. Slept in my own hospital bed last night, but the mattress is too soft, making it very difficult to sit up and move around. Will start looking today for a firmer mattress. Got up in the middle of the night and crawled back into my new powerchair. It has very comfortable cushions and a power recline feature. Threw a lap blanket over myself, reclined the chair and slept like a baby. Slept in late this morning. Got up and made myself a cup of coffee, (ignoring my FR duties, sorry) went out into my own back yard to enjoy the sunshine and cool morning air and offer thanks to God.

I’m so happy to be home. Looking forward to the next phase of life.

Praise God!

Next I’ve got to see about getting hand controls installed on my van so I can stay independent. Just can’t stand thought of not being able to jump into my van and go somewhere if need be.

With much love and gratitude to you all for your support and prayers.

God bless,

Jim

Yes, I know he can now. He and I have discussed his efforts in transferring as he was getting physical therapy to do that.

The dog was a joke. I had suggested to him earlier he could use this dog’s method - that I know a dog who throws herself down stairs and lands on her feet. I don’t know why she doesn’t break her bones when she throws herself down the stairs.

I’m glad he’s home and now transferring and eating Chinese food instead of cardboard hospital food.

Well, I DO have to say that WonTonSoup and Pork Fried Rice is better than hospital food, and in a way it is comfort food——— but I wish I lived near you to make REAL Chinese food for you!! You know -— the stuff that tastes like chicken?

But I am soooooo happy you are home, and adjusting to your own routine. Lots of things can be done for your bed, and I hope you find the right firmness just for you!

It is a proven scientific fact that cantankerous, stubborn people with medical problems, live longer than those who “accept” their fate and are complacent. It is also a proven fact the longer one stays in a hospital, the more likely he/she is to contract a disease.

I read a best selling book years ago by a man who had a serious medical problem that was supposed to kill him and was put in a hospital and he had his bed moved from the hospital to across the street in a hotel and hired a nurse to do what he needed - he would not stay in a hospital - he preferred his own place so he had control over what happened and what his diet was. He lived for years after that. Taking control of what happens to you gives one a much better chance of living a productive life.

Jim's independent thinking and doing, taking control, makes him a super man.

Dear FReepers
I'd like to explain why it is so very important to donate and keep Free Republic alive.
We have no sponsors or advertisers. We never will. Sponsors and advertisers control content. If they didn't, boycotts would not be successful.
FR is free to shout the truth. Posters are free to research and post information. We are not controlled by anyone.
We need to keep FR alive and free. Please donate.

The best part about a hospital is leaving. I’ve been in for heart problems and fortunately was able to leave upright. I hope everything goes well for you. Being on the outside looking in is usually a big mind over matter boost to ones health, and I’m not intending to be disrespectful of those who work there.
