New York mayor tries to buy another Colorado election

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg wants Colorado as his personal plutocracy and is willing to spend. If he succeeds, Coloradans will be subject to laws and politicians bought and controlled by an outside demagogue.

Bloomberg, the man who tried to control how his constituents consume soft drinks and salt, has never received a vote in Colorado. He has never lived here. Yet, he's paying for ads that tell Coloradans to spend their hard-earned wages on the Amendment 66 tax increase - a deceptive attempt to channel more than $1 billion a year to state government under the guise of helping children.

Few would vote for 66 if they knew what might happen to the money, which cannot be protected from pressure to backfill the state's financially troubled Public Employees' Retirement Association. To fool the masses, proponents are spending more than $10 million on ads that talk about bringing back gym class and hiring more teacher aides for a measly $133 per taxpayer. It's simple and sly. We all favor better education for kids.

The "Yes on 66" campaign filed reports Monday that show a $1.05 million contribution from Bloomberg and an additional $1 million from Bill and Melinda Gates.

Bloomberg and other Big Left contributors tried to defeat the recalls of Colorado Senate President John Morse and state Sen. Angela Giron, outspending combined recall campaigns at least 6-to-1. In their battle to impose new taxes with 66, they may outspend opponents by 10-to-1 or more.

With net worths of $31 billion and $72 billion respectively, Bloomberg and the Gates couple have the means to control Colorado if money buys its elections. Combined, these three activists could throw $1 million into a Colorado campaign every day for nearly 300 years without earning another dime. Given the fact they earn millions a day in interest, no reasonable limits apply to what they could spend buying future elections if this effort pays off.

Only voters can stop their power grab from working.

We don't resent the well-deserved fortunes of Bloomberg and the Gates family, who are free to spend as they choose. Yet, their willingness to buy votes does not obligate anyone to sell. Watch the ads and understand their deceptive nature. Enjoy the fact this out-of-state money circulates through Colorado's economy. Take the money, vote "no" and send a message that Colorado voters are not for sale.

Gov. John Hickenlooper, D-Colo., has naively thrown his support behind the tax hike. In doing so, the governor has worsened a growing credibility issue.

Only two weeks ago, Hickenlooper urged out-of-state gun control activists (read: Bloomberg) to stay out of Colorado elections.

"Colorado is a state that people like to be themselves and solve their own problems," Hickenlooper told USA Today. "They don't really like outside organizations meddling in their affairs . "

Despite this advice, Hickenlooper thanked Bloomberg and the Gates family for meddling in Amendment 66.

"Our deep thanks go to Bill and Melinda Gates, Mayor Bloomberg, and all of our Colorado donors for supporting Amendment 66," Hickenlooper said in a written statement.

The tax increase is not what advocates claim and will hurt Coloradans. When researchers for Denver's Channel 7 did the math, they found Amendment 66 would cost Coloradans earning $40,000 a year an additional $148 in taxes. Those earning $75,000 would pay an additional $278, and at $100,000, the measure would impose annual new taxes of $595.

These taxes, of course, wouldn't phase Bloomberg and Gates - even if they had to pay them. For Coloradans struggling to support children, Amendment 66 poses an enormous burden without meaningful guarantees the money will reach classrooms. Don't let out-of-state celebrity billionaires impose this suffering on a state they seldom even visit. Vote "no" on Amendment 66.

I don’t know what the problem is. i’m sure everything Bloomberg does is to strengthen the Christian middle class and promote freedom.

What this really is is destroying Colorado's flat tax and replacing it with a graduated income tax and at the same time imposing a huge tax increase. They are trying to sell it with lies about how all the money will help kids in the classrooms. Not.

It's a Democrat gift to the teachers' union.

Colorado Springs was a great place in 1981….Moved from NYS…and paid way less in taxes and better schools…..In fact property taxes were 600 dollars for twenty years…The Californians move in the 1990s and ruined it…left in 2001..

Gee, and I thought that Colorado had been “Californicated.” The Gates are from Washington State, and we all know out from under what rock Bloomberg came. And then there’s Chickenpooper, who was born in that place with the Biblical name, Nazareth, PA. Looks like Colorado’s “help” is coming from outside the state, but none of the big names are from CA! Just how can this be!

Seems to me maybe Chickenpooper threw a few Dem under the bus.

“Gee, and I thought that Colorado had been “Californicated.” “

Just because a few key players are not Kali doesn’t mean there aren’t tons of people with Kali license plats voting here. It is disgusting the number of whacko liberals from Kali that have moved here by evidence of their license plates.

I’ve finally figured what has you pissed off! All those CA transplants have come to Colorado with all their millions from the sale of their homes in CA and are driving up your RE prices!!! BTW, does it ever occur to you that not everyone from CA is a “whacko liberal?” One of my HS classmates and her husband just moved to CO from Sonoma, CA. They are staunch conservatives. Better check under your bed though, there may be a “communist from California” lurking under there. Also, I don’t know CO law, but here in CA you have to reregister your car within 30 days of becoming a resident. Maybe all those CA license plates belong to tourists spending their money to support you!

You’re exactly right! Another fantastic dem idea for wealth redistribution and trying to get around TABOR. Our craptastic school district (D38) is also asking for a 4.5 million increase with no limitation and no concrete plans for spending the money

“All those CA transplants have come to Colorado with all their millions from the sale of their homes in CA and are driving up your RE prices!!!”

Are you drunk? I would LOVE that! I already have tons of equity in this place and would welcome more.

Laws aside, kali drivers do not register their cars within 30 days, few of anyone does. In fact, many from Florida keep registering in FLA via mail because it is cheaper there.

So, no, you haven’t figured out what pisses me off about the liberals from Kali, even though I have said why...they are liberals and pollute the voting outcomes!

A “conservative” from Kali is like a New York Conservative: Just a hair right of their extreme left-wing friends so they *think* they are conservatives. I’ve talked to them and know this.

“I’m a conservative from Kali and in Kali we banned those things. No one needs a high capacity magazine.”

“I’m a conservative from Kali and in Kali we banned those things. No one needs an assault rifle.”

“I’m a conservative from Kali and in Kali we don’t like concealed weapons.”

“I’m a conservative from Kali and in Kali we are vegans, so no child needs to eat meat in school.”

“I’m a conservative from Kali and in Kali we recognize the human nature of undocumented immigrants and their need for our understanding.”

“I’m a conservative from Kali and in Kali we have pollution controls so no one in Colorado should be allowed a wood burning stove.”

“I’m a conservative from Kali and in Kali we know all about global warming, and people in Colorado....”

I have heard it all from so-called “conservatives” from Kali.

Sadly they probably think they have gone to an extreme right-wing State compared to those hellholes.

It seems to me that Colorado Republicans need to start beating the drum for a referendum that would somehow “block out of state billionaires from trying to buy elections.”

While it would likely not be possible to do so, it would make a good platform to attack the Democrats.

Some people in other Western states seem to blame “Californian migration” on everything just like some people in the South blame “Yankees”.

I can look a little deeper into where a car came from. I can run the VIN and get the selling dealer code. When replacing a cabin air filter, the contents of the glove box dump on the floor. If the fine piece fails emissions I get a few bucks before the out of state plates expire.

The "Cali-commies are ruining Colorado" meme is not true. For the past few years Wisconsin is the most common, followed by Massholes, New York, Chicago and Delaware. Lots of Ohio too. There was a surge of Pennsylvania cars a year ago, none lately.

I prefer the Californians. They at least know how to drive. All the northeast transplants have Obama bumper stickers. Especially the Prius owners.

Hey (m)aggots, you’re rich enough, you fund the CO teachers unions yourselves if that’s what you want.

Very important to big government interests and their desire to regulate against the rights of others. More income for them means more time and money to control local and national politics in the future.
