A black actor on the HBO drama series Treme said in a lawsuit on Friday that he wasstopped because of his race while buying sunglasses at Macys the third discrimination allegation made this week by a black shopper against a department store.
Robert Brown, who filed the lawsuit in state Supreme Court in Manhattan, said he was detained by police at the flagship Herald Square store on June 8 after employees contacted authorities about possible credit card fraud.
He said he was paraded while handcuffed through the store to a holding cell, where he was kept for nearly an hour while officers grilled him and searched his bag. His lawsuit said Macys employees suggested he couldnt afford to make such an expensive purchase. He eventually was released without charges.
The department store was profiling Brown because of his race, said his lawsuit, which seeks unspecified monetary damages.

Just following in Orca Oprah’s deep footsteps.
I’ve never heard of the actor, so I suspect that most of us hadn’t heard of him either.
He probably wanted some publicity.
Black people have a right to shoplift.
Well, I'd be kindly disposed. Most people wouldn't award him shit, but I would.
So a few suspicious characters are investigated and “maybe” found to have not done anything and this constitutes racist profiling.
Are these the only 3 people of this particular protected class to ever have been shopping in these stores?
Or maybe they were just a little unusual.
Free Money !!!!
Make that black skin pay off.....
This article leaves out the particulars of the bankcard fraud matter that generated the subsequent events. No one gets handcuffed for a simple debit card decline, there is obviously tons more going here that we do not know....
“This is about justice, not money.” said his mouthpiece.
It’s not the money, it’s the principle of the thing. Sure.
I have no doubt that all this is being staged, these bizarre incidents where young minorities buy uber-expensive items with suspicious temporary debit cards and then bring the national media in when questions are raised.
The left will do anything to fire up their base right now, but I’m not sure if they realize what sort of fire they are playing with.
If shoplifting has a ground zero it has got to be Macy’s Herald Square.
I’m wondering if the store employee asked to see his driver’s license and he refused ?
All these years, and all those big parades with all those folks shopping, and it just happens NOW?
GO FISH!
...”about possible credit card fraud.”
What happened to the evidence of possible credit card fraud?
Robert Brown
Having worked in loss prevention at Macy's, I can tell you the plaintiff is absolutely correct.
Seems like sound judgment, in my opinion.
“after employees contacted authorities about possible credit card fraud.
after Phillips used a temporary debit card..”
That’s why you ask for photo I.D.
If the names match, you move on.
The clerk and cops were IDIOTS!!
