Dem: Obama should consider stopping all deportations of illegal immigrants

President Obama "has the responsibility" to stop deportations of illegal immigrants if Congress proves unable to pass a comprehensive immigration bill, Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) argued in an interview published Friday.

"There are devastating effects if the Congress of the United States cannot enact comprehensive immigration reform – then the president of the United States has the responsibility to act to defend those immigrants which he says he wants to provide safety and justice for," Gutierrez told Salon.

In 2012, the Obama administration announced it would stop deporting some illegal immigrants who entered the United States as children under certain circumstances.

Gutierrez, who has helped lead the Democratic legislative effort in the House, said the president should "definitely look at" expanding that policy to all 11 million immigrants who have entered the country illegally, if efforts to reform the nation's laws remain stymied in the Republican-controlled House.

"I think that those who call on the President of the United States to re-evaluate his actions on the dreamers and expand it — I think that’s something the President of the United States should definitely look at, and begin to evaluate how he brings that about," he said. "I think he should think about that."(continued)

De facto amnesty of tens of millions of illegal aliens by fiat? Why not give them each a Chevy Silverado pick-up truck and a double-wide while you're at it?

No. Then he has to enforce the law as he took an oath to do.

That doesn't ring as well as "Deport Gutierrez" chants...

IDIOT, DEPORT THEM ALL AND THERE WILL BE MONEY LEFT TO FUND HEALTH CARE FOR THE TRULY SICK AND POOR AND CAN’T WORK BECAUSE OF THEIR TREATMENTS OR HEALTH CONDITION.

WHICH NO EMPLOYER WANTS A WORKER WITH WHO HAS A FAMILY MEMBER WITH A LIFE THREATENING ILLNESS LIKE BREAST CANCER. A YEAR OF CHEMO IS VERY EXPENSIVE. As is the 5 years of hormone surpressant, and the 6 weeks of another drug.

Yes, and while they are at it why don’t the Dems just raise the true flag of Dems and libs. You know the one. It’s the flag with the blue field and red strips removed from it, leaving just the white background. That certainly would make any foreigner who wants to enter the country illegally feel warm, entitled and dominate.

Does he ever do anything else to earn his wages as a member of congress ,he spends 24/7 on illegal immigration.Mexico should be paying this mouthpiece. How’s the unemployment rate in his district ? Last I seen he was giving illegal aliens jobs on his staff from Obama’s ,deferred action program. How can he accept our America dollars and sleep at nights ?He looks and acts like he is a member of Mexico congress?
